Sorry to continue to take this off-topic, but since the vendor is participating I don't feel so bad...

That's what I was referring to - the fact that he's tested many Deka's and they're all showing 360-400 CCA's means that the Deka paper specs are either low or his tester is wack...

The plot thickens...

If they test the same, and the case is exactly the same, seems like the difference is just in the stickers!

I should point out just to make sure no one thinks I'm serious or ragging on Eric and Helix....I'm not. Just goofing with Eric because my car has been there for a few months and because I keep adding things to do and Eric can't say no. ...and I have changed travel plans twice,.....and because I do have a Braille battery and it's the shizzle no matter what Hawker, DynaBatt and Odyssey say.

Well that was unproductive. The salesman had no information, no battery and no tester with him. He said I could order one and have it here by Thursday. What a pain. I'm going to try to go pick one up at the warehouse this afternoon...

Yup. He was no help whatsoever, and a touch rude to top it off. He said that he had sales calls all day today, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and would have no time for me. I just took matters into my own hands and went to the warehouse distribution center and bought one. Who should be sitting on the loading dock smoking a cigarette, but the salesman. What a tool. Anyway, I've got it and I'll test it when I get a chance.

Just remember if it turns out to be a good product and you go to but quantity make sure "the tool" isn't the guy getting the sale. Might want to make that clear to the sales manager.

Now if it's good AND cheaper sign me up

Okay. Got the battery, my cost $64 (I think that's the warehouse retail, although Mr. Tool said list price was $105). There is no question that this is absolutely the same battery. Period. The only snag is that they don't have adapters for car terminals, which Braille must be having made elsewhere. Maybe tomorrow I will try to make some on the new Helix lathe/mill, although it's probably over my head at this point. I'm going to make a despiration call to JLM for some machining magic...

Bingo! I'll call them Monday and get a bunch for the existing orders for Brailles, and then make some myself when I have a little more time. Thanks a million!

Sorry for the slow update. I got the batteries: it turns out that unless I want to drive an hour, I have to buy them from Richard Cranium (that's what we call him here at helix13), the local salesman. He took delight in over-charging me for what I'm sure was his biggest order in weeks. I felt like an *** giving him my business, but apparently he enjoyed it. I will find a better and cheaper alternative for the next run.

Thanks to flyboy2160, we got the terminals from batterymart, and have quickly sold through our first run of battery boxes. More are on order. When we get more in, we'll continue our package deal: the battery, terminal, and box for $130, or if you want just the battery with terminals, it's $90.77. As I said, we've got batteries and terminals, and have scheduled the next run of boxes.

Eric,

Thanks for the good news, and sorry to hear about your experience with Mr. Cranium. Put it behind you, and as Charlie Papazian would say "Have a homebrew" .

For those of us who have ordered the battery + box, when will the goodies be shipped? Thanks...

They've gone out. You should have gotten a tracking email. IF not, email one of us at dane or eric @helix13.com.
Actually email eric because I won't be in for the rest of the weekend. He can FW you the tracking info.

A couple of questions ...

Will this type of battery hold its charge if the car isn't driven for a week? a month?

Any drilling required to fit the battery holder?

I'm pretty sure that I must have a drain somewhere... but I only get a few days. I had 11.78v this morning, but it fired-up! Again, I think this is not battery-related... unless the MINI just uses quite a bit of juice when not running... I dread the troubleshooting, but I need to tackle it!
