aFe intake?

Came across this in eBay- And was wondering what the opinions on this. Does anyone have one. I would like to buy an Intake very soon but don't know what to buy.

Our test car was a bone stock 2004 Mini Cooper S borrowed from Charlie Norris. The car was equipped with the 1.6L supercharged 4 cylinder engine. The aFe intake system P/N 54-10572 comes complete with a powder-coated heat shield, brushed aluminum angled housing cover, carbon fiber high flow washable/reusable air filter, powder-coated intake tube, urethane couplers and a complete installation hardware kit. Installation time is about 30 minutes with simple hand tools. In less than 30 minutes, you can have 5 hp and 6 ft-lbs of torque. Here is how the installation went down.

I have no experience with this particular unit but it doesnt look like its any better or worse than similar design units. I like the fact that they didnt mantain the stock length inlet tube. There are gains to be had in tuning the length of the intake system. I cant say that they did optimize its length, but it is atleast a different length! Good luck with it.

I recently picked up a new aFe intake on Ebay at $199. I probably will not install it until March. I was also concerned about the lack of exposure this system has. I wanted an enclosed system that didn't use the hood insulation as it's top. I found some positive feedback from the M3 board on roadfly about aFe. Also they deal alot with truck intakes. You can look at the FAQ's on their website and see that they are a similar Type to K&N.

Some of the remarks that I read on other boards is that their dyno numbers are right on. No over inflated numbers. The one concern that I have is the filtration. It seems to be very porous. I think that the Alta foam will do a much better job in filtering out the dust. They do have experience in heavy duty applications so I assume this theirs is adequate. The overall quality of the filter, box and tubes are excellent and I am expecting the fit to be right on also.

Or you can get great results with the HAI < just do a search on HAI
Results and looks if that’s important to you go for the Alta.
Haven't seen anyone post about this intake before if you go for it give us your impressions.
