Drivetrain how do you get rid of the back fire noise?

. There's nothing like the sound of a Ferrari with an exhaust (or stock for that matter).
But the MCS's popping sound (some call it farting) is a FAKE imitation of the burble of a performance engine with a longer duration cam and higher compression than the MCS has. The MCS sound is programmed-in to the computer by playing with the ignition timing for a couple seconds on deceleration. That's why it doesn't continue even if the deceleration lasts longer. Unfortunately it's not even a particularly good imitation of a real exhaust "burble" sound.

I bought a MCS for its REAL handling, quickness & build quality. The fake exhaust popping is one of the few disapointments in my 2005.
If any dealer actually can turn it off, I would sure like to here about it, because my dealer says it's not possible.
I've had louder cars before, including a '67 CooperS with non-stock engine and a very nice sound. There is a noticable quality difference between a nice exhaust note, like the Ferrari previously mentioned, and the popping-sound programmed into the MCS.
- my 2 cents

However, despite that answer. I have an 04 with a Borla Race and it burbles all the time. Probably not as much as an 05 but much, much different from stock.

I think they can effect how much, but you don't want to eliminate it...
Our cars turn off the fuel injectors during engine braking. But you can't turn them off right as the throttle starts going up, because at cruising, your foot actually bounces up and down a little bit. So if you make it too sensative, you do effect cruising operation. So then you can make it more or less sensative. This effects the amount of burble. But none? I don't think you want it.

Popped and burbled like crazy. I picked up my MINI today and at first (as I promised my son he could listen to his favorite CD on the trip back from the dealership) I couldn't figure out whether my exhaust was rattling or the car was burbling. After an evening drive without the boy, I realized it was just burble. Reminded me of that Ferrari. To my mind it just needs a bit deeper sounding exhaust to fatten it up a little (and four more cylinders). A positive part of the car's personality AFAIC.
engineered popping
Harley Davidson switched to a water cooled engine a few years ago, they lost the definitive sound and the engine ran much better than the air cooled ones. It's common knowledge that Harley engines are programmed to run a little rough at idle so as to replicate the classic harley sound.
okay okay
. now its music to my ears
...... i guess i just have to ride my mini a lot more its 6 months old and it has close to 1400 miles...
. My ferrari has the burble but it sounds like ripping aluminum when i step on it hard
. thanks a lot guys i sure learn a lot of things from all of you..... next problem my battery is drained
I guess the answer is i got to drive it more often
... HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS

"STOP THE POPING" really or just complaining?
I personally love my back fire....I have an 04' so it's different than that of the 05.....
according to Kalbone....I shot blue flames out the other night

granted I have a "made it my self" 3" straight exhuast with a 14x5x9 mangaflow can...and "made it my self" quad exhuast tips.... I'll see what I can do about getting a pic of that blue flame though...
HOWEVER, as soon as we get some other "more important" things out of the way...I'll see what we can do about taking out the poping....we have been doing much with the Stock ECU from fuel maps to timing, throttle tip in, etc...it's pretty neat to see it all coming together....I just want the anti lag when I hold down the clutch....which isn't that hard....just time finding where the computer sees the clutch switch...heh heh...YAY!
anyway....it's not going to be free...it takes hrs and hrs of work to do this stuff....but if it's really an issue for some of you, I'll be happy to bring it up at our next meeting...

Yes they are all functional....made from MOMO exhaust tips....the welding was slow going at best....2 Ys into a home made splayed Y..then cut to 3" and attached to the can..... why....uh...cuase I could? LOL I just love this stuff...
can't wait to see more blue flames shoot out of them!!

Burble Observation
I use Borla's race, Eric's 19%, GIAC and larger injectors on an 04.
It burbles and always has.
If you run the a/c (that is, add a load to the motor during deceleration) then the burble almost disappears. This is very noticeable.
If indeed the burble is caused by unburned fuel (and obviously you would need some surplus O2 also) exiting the cylinders, why does this occur?

I'm still trying to get my hands on an early 308. They seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper....

Its a complete flop! 10-15 years ago, Ferrari, Lamborghini, other exotic cars were the best money could buy!
Today, even a 440-6 Daytona can run over 250 grand! These are cars that sat in dealerships for months because people thought they were ugly, then, were put out to pasture when the gas crunch hit, then, noone knew their value all the way thru the 80's! Now, all the guys that bought these cars and held on to them thru all that, the Hemi cars, the 6 pack cars, the winged cars, are all making money like nobodys buisness!!!!
