Alta-Nator?

Anyone have this installed with a supercharger pulley? Any insights?

You shouldn't need it with just a SC pulley. You would need it with an oversize crank pulley though. The oversize crank pulleys cause the whole belt to move faster, which means your alternator would spin a lot faster. Hense the Alta-nator. SC pulleys make the SC spin faster but the belt is still going the same speed. Or at least thats my understadning!

You won't need it even with a 2% larger crank pulley, because 2% is trivial. Think of it this way - if your "average" RPM was 3000, then a +2% crank pulley would have the alternator spinning as if it were 3060RPM.

Ho Hum...

Exactly. Alta came on and said somewhere that a 2% only overdrives a few percent, which is negligible considering the range of rpms that the alternator sees from idle to redline. That said, the pulley does weigh less, which should be good for some power. Be forewarned, it requires lifting the engine, I think, which will make it pretty involved to install!

I'm a little bemused by Alta's products: apparently aluminum is OK for an small alternator or larger crankshaft pully, but is not OK for a supercharger pulley. Gotta love those marketing guys...

In fact, it overdrives exactly 2%.

oops, yeah, brain fart . thanks. a 2% crank pulley only spins the alternator 2% faster, but a 15% SC pulley makes it go 15% faster, which is slightly different from what is said above.

I am sure there is some gain in WHP with a stock size pulley but it wasn't our main reason for building it. 2% isn't much be the 5% change in alternator speed will act like a slighly lighter crank pulley.

Actually there is no marketing involved in the material choice on either of those parts. SS is our choice do to threads and the way the tap fit works. Aluminum is our choice on the other 2 parts do to the weight and easy machinability.
