Very Basic Question re: Boost Gauge

Hi folks. I have a pretty newbie question that displays my lack of supercharger knowledge.

I just had a boost gauge installed by the dealer. The gauge is set up to read both vacuum and boost readings --- however, the way that it is installed it is reading only vacuum. I would prefer it to read boost PSI.

This is a very newbie question, however -- is this an either / or option on the guage calibration -- or should gauge be reading both (e.g. swing from side to side on throttle down vs. throttle lift.

Or, is this a dealer error in installation?

Please help!

Taylor

It should read both. Under hard acceleration it should be reading boost and when you let off it will swing back to Vac. If it isn't somethings wrong. Go for a drive and watch it as you get on the power.

Hi Taylor....

No need to feel bad about asking, that's what we are here for.

Your boost gauge is there to show both vaccum and boost, so depending on what has been done to the car IE. pulley, head work, polished supercharger
cold air intake or exhaust it will show anywhere from vaccum- 15psi of boost.

The gauge sending unit (or tube if mechanical) was most likely tapped at a point where only vaccum or atmospheric pressures are seen by the gauge.

Feel free to call me here at M7 and I can walk you thru the procedure
of installing the gauge in the right location.

As MINI Monkey said, it should read both. It looks like there is an error when it was installed. Do you know if they installed it mechanical or digital? I'd talk to your service tech about that and see what they can come up with. I'd suspect that they will take a look if you've just had it done. Let me know how that turns out.

Fantastic! Thanks

Guys,

Thanks a lot for the quick response. In three quick posts I got every aspect of my question answered! I'm impressed with the quality of this board!

I will take it back to the dealer, which is Knauz in IL; if they appear to be confused about its installation I will take you up on your offer to educate on proper placement!

Thanks again!
