OK, a lot has been learned not only about the mods, but the tricks on a dyno.

First of all, a 10-12 horsepower difference can be seen just from letting the car get cold. Icing the intercooler has a similar effect.

More testing will be done next week - all hot runs. That seems to be the only "fair" way to get comparable numbers.

Using a stock run of 147hp 130lb/ft, here are some comparisons:

Borla and Rogue intake alone make about 12 hp.

The pulley needs to be accompanied by the ECU. This was obvious by the numbers we got from the following mods:

Header
Magnaflow
Throttle Body
Rogue Intake
15% Reduction Pulley

180hp 156lb/ft all warmed up. Cold numbers are about 10-12 hp higher. With these mods, I fully expected to see 200hp, so the ECU is obviously backing off the timing to compensate for the extra boost. I'm going to continue to give the numbers for the car warmed up to give an acuurate portrayal.

The ECU should be programmed by the end of next week, and the dyno will be done again.

All of that said, some of the numbers are still impressive. 180hp vs 147hp is a 33hp gain. 156lb/ft vs. 130lb/ft is a 26lb/ft gain. The curves maintain a constant gap, so the power is delivered in the same RPM band as stock - no high rev needed. The torque curves are very flat too - also a great drivability sign.

All of these numbers are at the wheel. Using the 147 and the stock 163 at the flywheel, the ratio would give 199.6hp at the flywheel as tested. Woohoo

Let me know if you have any other questions. More to follow in the coming days.

Once all of the testing is completed on this first stage, I'll post all of the charts.

Sounds like you're busy.....accumulating all sorts of interesting info.
Enjoy.....
If you need anyone to put in a air -intake...just give me a hollar....
I'm not that far away

Peace,
D

awesome Randy, your doing a great job.
I am going to get the best intake and exhaust for my mcs because of you. I was just complaining about a week ago as to why there aren't any magazines that break down aftermarket parts and then i found you. I am probably going to try modifying the air box like you illustrated, and look forward to more info from you in the future. All this and I still haven't gotten my car yet A couple more days to go

I guess you have to change some of your numbers on your site, bummer

I am glad that I have not put my pulley on yet. As soon as you get the software in line put me at the top of the list. Does it look like software that we will have to send or ecu off to get it done? With the pulley the power curve still looked the same? Thanx for all the info Randy.

I wish I didnt have to go away to FSU (not really!) and could just have a MINI tuner shop here in Jacksonville, FL. All we have is Speed Craft for the hondas. Good job, I wonder if you're having fun doing all this running around or getting burnt out.

But anyways I want to know as well as kite-surfer does, will I have to send the ecu off, have a complete replacement, or could I just get some kinda software and a how to to upload it to the ecu with a lap-top (that would be nice, very nice). Thanks.

Hi Randy,
Are theses numbers corrected? I know you are at a higher elevation than us flatlanders. I assume they are corrected based on the stock hp number. Either way 33 hp is a nice gain. Weren't the headers on there too?

Sorry, I see the headers are on there.

Is this a completely new exhaust, head to tip, or is the stock cat still in the mix somewhere?

These numbers are corrected for density (pressure and temperature) by the dyno.

These numbers were with the car warm (cold numbers are 10-12 hp higher).

The header is a complete replacement of the factory system - it includes a high flow cat, and the check engine light does NOT come on, so the Lambdas are not taken out of the ECU loop.

The software I'm going to use initially is a flash program that unfortunately requires the ECU to be sent. Other possibilities are still being explored.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Randy,

Thanks for your sheer honesty in presenting these numbers. Also thank you for sharing abour how to "skew" the dyno results. It's pretty impressive that for ~$20/hp increase, the intake it the way to go!

Keep more coming and we'll keep sending business your way!!
