This is hardly an educated response. Apparently this person has not even bothered to research the current Twincharging options.

Personally I'm thinking they are speccing a larger turbo because of mass air flow issues... the GT28RS may be more appropriate from a power stand point, but the rate of change of airflow into the supercharger may be more than this turbo can handle...

They could also be looking to reduce cost??? Not sure though.

Finally it could be a packaging issue, maybe the turbo just fits better in the space available...

But in the end its all speculation until you see it in person...

The only reason to put on a small turbo is the lag you mentioned but we are fortunate enough to also have superchargers to take care of the lower end so the lag is not of consequence.

Big turbo = big horsepower! this looks good
You still have to have it at a lower boost... Do you have any idea what you are talking about. Its more complicated and I'm not saying that I under stand it to the last bolt.. I do know that you don't get a free lunch.

Seriously the two work together in series.. How can you say a bigger turbo is better out of the blue? This has to be studied. The supercharger has a limit too, so its all about the right combination of parts.

That EMS might be the reason why they can go bigger. They can change and watch more parameters so less things could go wrong. Why talk about details that Alta will be talking about soon. I opened my big mouth and its early in the morning... I'm in no mood to read what crap I have written

I'm just wondering what the time line to release is, 6 months, a year? I'm in the process of setting up a Turbokompressor install. If the Alta was 3 months away I'd have to give it some serious consideration. If it's longer than that I'm afraid the wife would make the $ I have magically turn into a bedroom suit or related crap.

I'm here in Vegas at the AAPEX show. I'll have to run over to the Alta booth and check it out.

Awesome! Get us the skinny. If you can get an estimated release date I'd be really interested.

the price estimated priced is surprising $4000, un-installed.

components alone add up pretty fast:
turbo $1000; intercooler: $700; Aquamist $500, pulley: $150; turbo manifold and down pipe: $400; misc brakets and hoses: $200; intake and piping $300...thats $3300 and no electronics, blow-off valve, etc. what's up with the Hydra; anyone know about that?

The Hydra Nemesis is very popular in the Subaru community for the big HP cars. I'd guess its a trickle down from their Perrin line of Subaru products.

Aquamist $500,
Yea, I'm not thrilled about paying for this piece though. Hopefully the ECU can control it, otherwise I REALLY don't want it.

I'm a bit confused. Are you saying all these things are over and above the $4k or that you're surprised that they're all included?

He's saying that it's a good price for the kit - with the assumption that all those things are included.

While surfing the internet a few weeks back doing some research into the possibility of ceramic coating my collector, I saw a 4 cyl collector just like the one being used by Alta on this show car. It's so very simplistic in design and it looks awesome! Makes me drool.

We all know it is best to let Alta clear up the facts as opposing to ourselves making assumptions..

Mighty Miniz will be posting a full article and putting a lot of new information together for you all ASAP. We spoke in depth with Alta (and numerous other vendors) about upcoming products, got answers to all of the above questions and more, and will share it with you just as soon as our editing process is completed.

We understand the urgency (it's to be expected!), but we're not gonna settle for anything but the best- in this article, just as in the recent dyno event (and its coming write-up), we have put much work and effort. It'll all be good, I promise! We'll post a link (for those who wish to see the primary document) and then share information here, all soon enough.

Thanks to Jeff from Alta for taking the time to talk to me about their new TC system and about the MINI community in general. Here are some pics I snapped of the Alta prototype twincharged system:

I couldn't tell you exactly where it was, but it was in the show directory. Other than working at AAPEX at our booth (the real reason I was there), just about the only visits I made were to companies making twin-charged MINIs. I must have spent 10+ hours discussing them with all 3 of the players in market.

It is difficult for me to explain where it was so:

http://www.semaonline.com/ExpocadVr/...a05/Start.html

Company :PERRIN and ALTA PerformanceBooth(s) :27531

It was next to Promini.
