'05 transmission compatibility

My '02 MCS was updated with an '05 6sp/LSD (a real jump in performance)and apparently was mechanically a simple swap. However, the cruise control is intermittently functional and a number of error codes are now appearing which the Dealer attributes to an incompatibilty between the computer control and the different gear ratios. The Dealer is unable to find a software version that will correct the mapping issue. Anybody have any ideas how to get my cruise control back (short of installing an older trans)?

!!#$%^&*&^%$#!!

i've been after my dealer to tell me whether i could swap an '05 into my '03 and so far they've said "can't do it wilh all BMW parts. tranny fits ok, some other things don't."

please give us some details: where (phone numbers/email) was it done? how much parts and labor?

i was so astounded at how much better that '05 tranny pulls with the lower ratios that i'm willing to spend a few grans on the swap.

can you say "tranny party, anyone?"

thanks

Randy Webb has a 2005 Transmission in his car.
He no doubt knows the answers to these questions.

The difference in performance with the '05 gears is more pronounced than adding the JCW tuning kit (which I added prior to the trans) If I have to, I will gladly give up the cruise control to keep those gears. But my car is still in the shop and nobody can figure out what the cruise control problem is.

I bought new (full MINI warranty) The '05 trans/LSD combo is too new to find in the salvage yards yet. I found dealers charging anywhere from $2700 to $4400 plus a $200 core charge. The core charge is lost since you have to return the same part number, but I have found buyers willing to pay $600-700 for used transmissions in good working condition. Contact me offline if you need some help finding the right dealer. Installation is a simple swap. NO MODs. Should not cost more than $500-800. My net cost was $2700. Do it next time you need a new clutch and there is no incremental labor cost.

Car is still in the shop with the cruise control problem. Does not appear to be related to the transmission. I'll keep you posted.

Correct me please, but the Quaife that Webb has on their website is not OEM, correct? Where does one find the OEM LSD?

i was under the impression that you could only get the OEM LSD with a new Transmission, they wouldnt sell the two separate.

That is correct, none of the dealers I contacted were able (or willing) to sell the LSD on a standalone basis. The trans/LSD is only sold as a unit at this time.
