MyMINI Single Muffler exhaust Review

Originally posted on mini.mdsbrain.com and brought here for other MINI enthusiast to enjoy :

I contacted Pete of MyMINI about 2 weeks ago about his unique exhaust system. The system is one of the few out there with a one muffler and resonator design. Most other brands on the market have a resonator and a pair of mufflers.

Initial Worries:
Worried that this system had so little restriction that it might sound “ricey”, tiney or just plain awful, I wondered if its quality would be sub par, that the system would arrive hanging out of its box. Pete seemed so friendly and the cost of his system was about $200 less then any other on the market might be a scam.

Have a listen (sound clips were taken from about 3 feet back):
Idle - nothing on in car.
Revving - Pushing the engine to about 3k twice then to 6k and then a few light taps on the gas.

Pic (from myminiparts.com):

I liked this exhaust from the start its light (only 24lbs), made in the USA and stainless steel. It came with a unique tip. Oval and looking just like a rear fog light or reverse light.

Boxed well and arrived in one piece via 2nd day air:

Included Hardware (gasket and 2 bolts):

Resonator:

Muffler:

Tip (Don’t mind the rust spots. They must be left over from welding and wiped right off):

Tip installed (pic taken from an angle):

Install:
1. Remove the old restrictive garbage from under the car.
2. Attach the resonator with included gasket and bolts to the header.
3. Place one of the included clips over the end of the resonator.
4. Slide the muffler pipe over the resonator pipe and loosely tighten.
5. Hang muffler. Muffler hangs by the use of a hook like piece on the outer hanger and a straight piece with a nub on the inner side.
6. Connect the tip pipe to the muffler using one of the included clamps and tighten loosely.
7. Tighten then the first clamp on the resonator and then the clamp on the muffler. This is to make sure the tips is level and aligned in the rear valence.

$539 - 3 pieces (resonator, muffler, tip with pipe attached) Comes with 2 clips for install, New gasket and 2 screws with washers to connect the system to the Header. The system put all my worries to rest. It sounds incredible, was a piece of cake to install, Came with all needed hardware and the price is right on.

I rate this exhaust a 4.5 out of 5. I’m not totally happy with the oval exhaust tip but it has grown on me.

Any chance of a pic from behind the car showing the tip in place?

The rest of the system looks ok!!!! But I would have to spend the extra money on swapping the tips to something else, so I think the Alta would probably suit me better if I was going to go with a 1 sided system. Glad you like it though

Pete of MyMINI said he is working on a typical dual-tip design and will release it in the next 30 days. So there is still hope

Loved the revving video. Was great when the camera got blown around.

Exhaust sounds nice!

Yah I sat the camera down and the exhaust gases moved it. I didn't even notice that till I watched it back on my pc.

It looks like your resonator had a bit of a dent. Notice anything else like that?

I am working on an update to this review. Pete who owns MyMINI saw the dent as well. He says he thinks it was a rsult of bad shipping and has since sent me a replacement resonator. I thought I have seen such a dent in resonators in the past and they are to give enough room for a Short Shift Kit. But I could be wrong

I've been to the mymini store several times (actually last weekend) and I've seen the system - fit & finish are first rate and its sounds - Really good. Install apparently is straight forward and the TIP grows on you, you really need to see it up close and personal. At the same time, Peter is developing a dual tip for this system. He may even make a twin exhaust.

While shooting the breeze with Peter, he shared some of the stuff he is working on. He's coming out with an "enclosed box" CAI using an ITG filter and it accesses air from the vent as well. For the interior, he offers a cool leg rest for those of you whose leg touches the centerconsole. And he's carries MINILITE mags which look terrific on the car, reinforcing the nostalgic part of the Mini.

Any chance you could do a driveby video?

Sound under load is much more telling than free-reving.

I have been trying to get such a thing done. This of course requires a second person. This is one of the sound clips I want to add to this review when I update it in the next few days.

I am currently in contact with them about there play mini exhaust header to compliment the system. Great job Mymini cant wait to see whats next...........

Exhaust is holding up just fine. I think the exhaust is getting quieter as I put miles on it. I have about 5k on it now.

I'm 50/50 on going for his new dual tip.

I would go for / buy a system with Res. with two mufflers and two tips.
I bought a Dinan CAI (and some other small parts) from Pete and it was cracked from shipping. I called to let him know. He check the rest of his stock and said the others were bad also. He thanked me, ordered a another one and asked if I could return the bad one. He is refunding my shipping and sending me a new Dinan. Great Customer Service!

Thanks Pete!
