It all started back in June 2002 I went to California Speedway in my first Cooper that day I was fortunate enough to put in 72 track miles. From then on I was hooked on track days. It was as though the track was my calling. By the end of June 27, 2002 I recieved my second Mini this time a Cooper S Now with 500 miles on the odometer off I went to my second event this time at Willows Springs Raceway. A fansistic day behind the wheel of 152 track miles Feeling that every track mile driven in a Cooper S is a neverending thrill, never truly realizing its full pontential always able to push the Cooper S abit more as my learning curve and driving skills improve. The Cooper S is truly a well rounded car, capable of keeping up with the best reguardless of make. The only short fall is in along straightaway naturally horsepower wins. As far as improvements to the Cooper S I'm just like everyone else, lowered, exaust, high flow air filter with hole cut to recieve cold air /via cowel duct below the windshied, difference being I made a shroud to block out hot air form the engine compartment and draw air only via/ coweling duct.
The most noticable improvement I've done is for my track wheels and tires are now down-sized to 16 inch SSR rims with 205/45-16 KUMHO this combo makes for an overall diameter of 23 inches. This combo seems to me the best as for aceleration and yet not lose speed at the top end. I got side tracked- focus- focus
My main reason for going on line to this forum is I'll try to find more Minis to go to track days. In the fourteen track days I've been to I was only one there with a Mini only one day That day being a BMW dealer sponsored track day. What I would like to have is more Minis at track events. HELP!! With a total of 1,338 track miles it can be mighty lonely out ther if your the only Mini !

As an added note: Why is it that reguardless what track,be it California Speedway,Big Track Willows Springs, The Streets of Willows, or Buttonwillow Raceway the Cooper S seems to max-out in speed @ 110-- 115 mph? This does'nt matter even if I come out of a sweeper doing 90+ I still can't get the MCS past the magic numbers. All you racers out there, teach me to get past 115 mph

I'll be out on the track here in the Seattle area in March; I can hardly wait.

I also got SSR wheels; the Competions are amazingly light!

Have fun!

rts,

I'm here in NorCal and will be doing some track time this year. I'm on a waiting list( I registered late ) for a track day at Laguna hosted by: unlimited laps
But will more than likely do most of my track days at Sears. I'm running an all stock MCS. Got some concerns about the run flats, but I want to experience it before I make the change to lighter wheels/tires.

Hey guys this is a little off topic, but lets see some pictures of your cars with the ssr competitions. I want to get the 16.5 anthracite variety with some yokohama avs es 100s. There a little pricy though, but that's what happens when you buy quality. Thanks.

Here is a pic of my SSR Comps. I just installed them today; they have 215/45x17 Yoko 100ES tires.

Sleepless,

Tires look nice! Any rubbing with 215s? I was thinking of going to that size once I wear down my run flats

FYI, for any in the Northeast, I've been trying to organize a group track day at either NHIS, Watkins, or Limerock. Here's the thread about that.

This would be through SCDA, and we need about 5 of us to go in together for a discount. Unfortunately, I've been trying to gin up interest for over a month, and so far only about 3 people have given me any specifics...so this will likely fall through as a group thing unless I hear more.

If you're interested, go read the thread and then PM (personal message) me. Thanks!

No rubbing with just me in it; haven't tried loading it up. It looks like they should clear fine. Note, I'm on the stock S suspension; no lowering... yet

The Hamann website has a project car with a lowered suspension and *gasp* 225/35 ZR18s. What is going on here? Here's the link[code:1:f2045aec8e] Hamann MINI setup [/code:1:f2045aec8e]. They look pretty sweet though! Too bad you can't turn with them on
