Drivetrain Who is the loudest? And is it to loud?

The trap exhaust is a tunable one so it can be adjusted to the style of driving Drag/ Autocross/ Twisties/ Town. The clips recorded by Greatbear and Rephyle from the Dragon 04 shoot out can be found at the following link post number 41. also here are the DB chart
http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...dragon+exhaust
Borla Street: 89/95 – Quite mellow, very similar sounding to stock, but a touch more throaty.
Magnaflow: 89/101
Milltek: 89/101
Stebro: 91/101 – Not a favorite. Sounded similar to the One-ball, but not as raspy
Milltek header/Borla Street: 91/100
Milltek header/Milltek cat-back: 88/107
Milltek header/Borla Race: 88/105 – My favorite for the Cooper S. Great tone, great rumble without blowing out your ears.
Supertrapp Dual: 93/118 – WOAH! LOUD! A very loud tin-can
Classic Mini Cooper S – Play Mini cat-back: 108 peak – this systems sounded fantastic, and was a real crowd pleaser!

I would wager that it was an early generation. Check my previous post regarding my opinion as I've heard them all in person.

Can anyone help me on this? THanks

My two cents
I some what agree with all the negative reactions to loud exhausts. I got a borla race exhaust for my mini, but I mostly got it for performance. The tastefull rumble that it expells to me isn't as abnoxious as those Hondas with the "moo cow" noise.
And I try to be considerate when driving late at night through populated areas. With a loud exhaust comes responsibility, and I feel it's very unMini like to annoy people trying to sleep. But that's just me.

Couldn't agree more
Just be an adult about it and don't give Mini owners a bad name

if you want the loudest most illegal exhast on a mini ever, put in a obx header, with no cat, and just run a 3' pipe straight to the back, modify the battery box, but try no muffler and no cat... painfully loud, but if you want loud, here it is
*edit* i just reread some of the older posts, so i guess its probably a no cat magnaflow or no cat borla race

well, "loudness" is all relative.
for instance, none of the popular exhausts listed here will be as loud as most of the Harley exhausts I've heard. To me, Harley riders who want louder exhausts must be close to deaf, b/c that's just way too loud compared to my MCS at full throttle. Just my $.02.

To be legal depends upon your state. Each state is different. I think CA is 95 DB at 20". You need to look up your state's laws.
There is no Borla Race nor "sport". There is only a Borla "aggressive" (140119) vice "street" (140120).
Don't bother to try to learn anything from sound bites. They are pretty useless.
In general, a Supersprint should be pretty loud although they say Supertrapps are too but sound poorly. We have had Supersprints on most of our sports cars and they have sounded fine. Recently got a Borla "race" and find it pretty quiet, not at all like the sound bites, nowhere near as loud as Supersprints have been on other cars
As others have said, if you want loud, just go to custom muffler shop. Borla sells racing exhausts. see what they can fabricate. Headers will make it louder.
The problem is, it ain't a v8 so its never going to rumble with the big boys. But is sure does "whine" good ...

I get in the car, roll down the window, and just listen to the exhaust note and SC whine on the way to my destination.
My wife "used" to listen to her XM station (because the car was was too quiet). Now she does the same.
There is no sweeter music. Its kind of hard to explain. You got to be a "sports car" person to get it (albeit I wouldnt call a MINI a sports car by traditional definitions). Its one of those things ... you either get it or you don't.
thats the best way I can answer that
Mgnaflow NOT AVAILABLE YET for 04-05
I just went to the Magnaflow web site and their System for the MCS 04-05 is not available, P/N 16662, I have a friend who's a dealer for them and he called them and was told they don't have a price and don't know when it will be available, another case of confusion from spending hours doing searches on this site
.
My wife is about to kick me out of the house for spending 100's of hours reading post after post trying to find what is best for my Mini and I don't even have it yet, so far I bought Wheels, GoodYear F1 GS-D3, PSS9 Bilstein and might buy an OBX Headers today, I'm also looking at the m7 pulley and maybe the Stage 2 package, (if I can find more about it) or maybe the Helix twin charge but then I won't need to buy the OBX.
JCW is too expensive and I will avoid going to the Mini dealership, I didn't even buy my car from them and when I called for parts, they seem to think if I was too cheap to buy a Mini instead of a M5, I shouldn't bug them.
They quoted me $546.77 CAD for an outdoor car cover and $9k CAD for the JCW engine/exhaust upgrades only and they keep all the old parts even the exhaust, I don't think they will see me very often.:impatient

Rollin .. as for the Supertrapps .. yes they can be tuned as you say. On my rig im running twin 8" trapps .. if your going to do this type of set up i would suggest using the 14" ones instead. My original intention when i ordered the 8" one was to route them in the center like the stocks, but the old school guy in me had to have standard Dual exhaust once i put them up against the car. Also if you do only 4 disc in them instead of the 7-5 set up i was using at the shoot out for drag racing. It will be only half as loud also give the car alot more bottom end making it easier to come off the line. Also i found the power pretty much cut off around 5800 rpm with the 4-4 set up. The 7-5 set up pulled all the way thru 7600 rpm. Just dont forget to use your Aintisiez on the bolts
I was running my 72 850 Fiat Spider with an open exhaust for a while because I was not finding the right one for it. It was so loud that no one wanted to drive behind me when we went on group rides to shows, etc. However, it gave my little 850 engine more power running it open, enough to get me up a 10% grade without starting out in 4th gear at 50 and dropping to 2nd and 20mph. It took a while but I finally found and installed the Supertrapp 8" exhaust. I tried it with all discs and with less. It was louder with less so I wound up using them all. Also, the power that I lost was minimal. I am pretty happy with it and can even hear my radio over the sound. Still has the Italian Sports car tone and sounds mean, butbrought the dcb's down to a bearable note.
any low end loss w/ aftermarket exhaust
--Has anyone noticed any low end power loss after fitting an aftermarket exhaust? Just wondering. I've done aftermarket exhausts to motorcycles and I've noticed a serious loss of low end power and the power band seems to not pick up until the midrange. Just wondering how linear these exhausts are for the Mini. Thanks everyone.

Has anyone mated a second generation Milltek exhaust to an 05 MCS? Are there any fitment issues. Do I dare to ask if anyone has a sound clip, picture, anything from the Milltek particularly on an 05? ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
