Amd 1-click + BMW software update?

Been running the 1-click and liking it. Last week, I take my car in for a different issue and the dealer updates the BMW software. What's up now with my one-click ecu upgrade?

Someone help? The immediate obvious people to ask this question have not returned phone calls or emails that were sent out a couple days ago.

Does the whole one-click device need to be reprogrammed? Or, can I simply one-click back over my BMW upgrade or what?

M'aidez! :impatient

You do not have to re-download anything from your car. You only do that once to get your ECU ID onto the One Click (ID purposes). You just have to re-upload your AMD map from the One Click back onto your ECU. You will be Ready to go within minutes.

It actually depends on what software version you had, and which one you have now. There are at least two incompatible generations of MINI software (it does not matter if it's OEM or aftermarket, it's based on the V.32, V.36, etc. base version of the software). Loading the wrong one will cause a non-start situation.

The safe thing to do would be to read your current program into the 1-click and send it to AMD for updating.

Remember, you can always reload your base map back onto your ECU from the One Click if you do encounter a problem.

Nope, you cannot if you had, for example V.32 and upgraded to V.36. Trust me, been there, done that. The dealership reflashes the entire ECU, changing memory locations in some cases. The chiptuners only change small sections of those ECU locations and can put them in the wrong spot if a mismatch occurs.Trying to reload the old file can cause the engine to not start.

Thanks for the clarification/correction. That could have really gunked up the works!

Definitely. It surprised me when I found out about that.

Thats why its always smart to download your ECU programming before uploading any new stuff. Its cheap insurace, 5 minutes vs tow to dealer for ecu reflash.

Thanks for the responses. It's not necessarily what I want to hear, but what I suspected. It seems like the US representatives for AMD/Cool New America are no longer in business.

I sent AMD UK an email Sunday and I'm waiting for their response. It may cost a few bucks and some down time, but the upgrade is sorely missed!

Bummer. That really puts a damper on any changes in a timely manner.
