Sounds like a foam to avoid then! Actually, even if it went at ground rates it may well have ended up on a plane. But if it didn't then it sounds like it just takes a long time to cure or is really sensitive to moisture or heat.

I ran into the foam expansion thing once when I used some of the canned insulation foam to contain an odd shaped piece of test equipment. Sent it across the country and the box sort of "exploded" in flight. The carrier was not amused.

TonyB,
Do you really need to modify the M7 scoop to make it work with the GRS diverter? I have actually modified the GRS diverter so it doesn't push the stock scoop up and add stress to the stock scoop's mounting points (already broke 2 and had to glue back on with epoxy). Although I have the BBR lip on, the opening on the scoop itself is still small since it is stock. The data you got from the IAT's convinced me that this may be a worth while addition to the GRS intercooler instead of the BBR lip.

John, at least with how my GRS diverter mates-up, there is room for improvement. Glad you found the data worthwhile. The M7 scoop makes for more a performance difference than the GRS IC does!

Thanks for the info Tony. What kind of improvements did you work on? Is there an issue with regards to the fitment of the M7 scoop with the GRS diverter or are the improvements only made to increase efiiciency of the two parts? I think that the stock scoop has been matched with the stock intercooler. So if you change to a bigger IC then you probably need to feed it more air aswell. Goes to show how well BMW/MINI did their homework with regards to the scoop and the IC.

I have no "scientific" or "quasi scientific" data. The "butt" dyno is all.....that being said there was a noticeable difference when the car gets moving....say above 40 mph......regardless......I am happy

btw I pulled up next to a WRX STI last night and the size of the scoop on that thing is 4X the M7 scoop...it's huge

John, after I get back my scoop from M7, I'll glady share some photos of what I've done. It's minor, but for me, if it makes sense, I'll do it...
