fair enough! i've just been getting mixed feed back about it (plugs) i've used them in my air cooled VW's so have alittle experience, but when it comes to d' mini people say dont use them and some swear by them so all d' info i can get will help. seems to me like it would help more in D' forced induction motors than D' naturally aspired motors. that JCW air box is still a box so not to thrilled w/it & plus i heard that its really designed to work w/their modified supercharger. know what i mean.

HA! I was an air cooled VW junkie for years! Had a 68 bug - the colder plugs were essential to getting consistent performance out of it. I still have a copy of John Muir's "How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" repair manual stored away somewhere. The VW experience is a big reason I'm going with colder plugs.

My thought is the colder plugs will almost certainly help, and if they make things worse they're easy to swap back out.

was it D' semi-automatic or was that 69', i have a 63' w/big roll roof in canvas and a 67' type 3 fastback (one of a kind year) pancake engine 48's IDA's. enough about that so what type plugs have U' tried. i'll check 2see if i have that book if not uwanna sell it??

The semi-automatic was in 69 - came out with it when they went to the double jointed axles instead of the "swing axle".

I loved the big canvas sun roof - wish I'd had one. My parents had a 67 type 3 fastback for years - that was where I got my interest in VWs in fact.

I did a couple of dune buggy engines with Weber 48IDAa and one with Weber 44MX carbs. They were bad *** fast but they sucked gas big time. I used the "Holly-Weber Progressive 2 barrel" carb on my street engines. My biggest engine was a 2180cc (92mm pistions and some kind of stroker crank). Made 197 horsepower on an engine dyno and lasted my friend two years in his dune buggy.

I really miss the simplicity of those engines. That Bug got me through high school and college and sparked my interest in all things mechanical - one of the main reasons I ended up getting my undergrad in Mechanical Engineering.

The book is still available today from Amazon. do a search on "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" - best book ever. I would never sell my copy - too many good memories.

so ur definitely an AIR cooled v-dub fan those 48's can pull ur face right off, and ur wallet due to the gas fact. 2180 is big i have a 2110 ithink thats right dont remember that blue print i've gone w/so many combos its hard to keep up currently im lookin' into a type 4 build w/porsche internals & shroud full flowed block & Carillo rods, so u see im a bit of an air kooled nut. my first love was them german air suckers due to economical ways nothing like workin' on them have a 63' chevy SS Impala as well and its still easier to work on VW's so what type of plugs did U choose? did U get ur milltek? mine still not here hope its easy to install.

I will be getting the Milltek cat-back exhaust. Won't be getting a header any time soon. I've gotten to ride in several cars with various exhausts and I like the relative subtly of the Milltek sound.

I have the colder NGK plugs part number NGK BKR 7 EQUP and the 17% Alta pulley but they're not installed yet. I'm ordering an air intake this week and will put all of the equipment on at once. I already have the "standard" MTH software installed - I love it but will go to Apexi or MTH tuner software down the line.

Next phase will include JCW injectors and the Milltek exhaust. Probably around the first of the year.

Let us know how the Milltek install goes. What else are you doing to your MINI?

Hey, just a note if you are doing it yourself. Randy noted the "throatiness" of my Milltek when he was getting ready to install my pulley at the pulley party this weekend. When he had it on the lift, George, of Bimmers Clinic, noted I was missing a flange bolt. I know I was careful to get those tight, but George pointed out that the supplied bolts were not "exhaust appropriate." He said he sees that a lot and standard hardware can work itself loose with heating and cooling cycles. He set me up with exhaust bolts with self locking nuts (sort of an orangeish-bronze color). They are designed not to expand and contract so much with heat, thus are not as likely to work themselves loose. Something I'll keep in mind for exhaust installs on other cars.

Needless to say, my Milltek is back to it's usual purr.

How do you like the pulley? I had a Milltek exhaust installed yesterday. I love the look, sound and feel. I am glad that George was able to help you. Is is a great guy, very knowledgeable and has the cleanest shop in town.

Pulley's awesome. You're spot on about George, and proud as hell of his shop - as he should be. Did you get the tour? I swear he personally showed us every bottl of fluid in the place - and explained his rationale behind his choice of oil, brake fluid, ATF, etc. Learned a lot that day, for George and Randy.

I've had the Milltek header and catback on for a year. I've made it part of my pre and post track routines to check all of the bolts and tighten as necessary.

the install was easy quick-fast i had the playmini b4 and the sound is much nicer but real close...ill be doing the head & header next (matchport and all) then mayb some cam work!? not sure yet.. whats progress on urs??
