Drivetrain Water/alcohol injection

Water/alcohol injection
Here it is...
Thanks to John Petrich for his helpful advice Look carefully around the incooler. I have it plumbed preinjector as he did and also because I fear that the Nitrous at the other end would immediately freeze the water/alcohol coming out next to it. I installed a small LED on top of the steering column which lights up when the injector is active and will stay on if the injector is clogged. Nice temperature drop improvement. No, have not dynoed to measure the power improvement.

Sid,
What a beautiful looking installation. Can see lots of cool options here with the WI for 'normal' driving and the Nitrous for those 'special' times. I suspect that the Nitrous will cool the intake charge all by itself.
Please keep us posted as to your driving impressions.

Setup sounds nice!!!

The pump pressurize the fluid to 100psi. I made a custom bracket (top right bolt of the IC cover) to locate the injector solenoid, the boost switch, and the clogged nozzle detector in one area. Trust me, there is no vacancy under my bonnet The hose you see at the right side near the Nitrous is a tap to the boost pressure which is connected to the adjustable boost switch. I could reverse the boost tap and the water/alcohol injector's location if I chose to but I'm afraid I'd need to move the Nitrous for the aforementioned reason. I'll post closeups later:smile:

It's raining at the Woodward cruise Good time to catch up with my project postings. The water injection LED is lit when the water/alcohol is flowing at preset +-11psi (above small arrow). My AF is not really at 15.7 The motor is off...
A wider view of my office:smile:
The tank/pump sits snugly next to the N2O bottle in the boot. I know this is bad form (high CG) but I literally couldn't find another spot to mount a good size tank/pump any lower. After the rear seats goes away, I will fabricate custom tanks and fit them in the rear foot wells. For now, I'm using a 3 gallon marine fuel tank which has a handy level gauge and is quick connected for easy removal.

That's what the dealer said Warranty? What's that? I thought about using the washer bottle but it wouldn't last very long with WI...

Sid, thanks for sharing, and for paving the way! I hope to do something very similar, maybe this Winter. I would ideally prefer an IAT trigger, as opposed to boost, but that is proving to be a bit more challenging...
Sounds like you are on a cruise now... Man, if I were on a cruise and my wife caught me posting on that 'MINI website,' I'd get some grief, even on a rainy day Enjoy!

Tony...using boost is a better way to go don't you think as WI is only applied when the tough gets going (higher rpms) which usually coincides with IAT rises It would be nice to cool the charge in situation like the Dream Cruise where max speed is around 3 mph. But, WI at such low rpms could choke your motor. Sophisticated systems like Aquamist uses injector timing to achieve progressive WI control. Very nice but very expensive...maybe later down the road.
I was going to take the wife to the cruise but it's raining/humid as usual. After the Dream Cruise tomorrow will be a perfect sunny 77 degree day...go figure
Next stop...front camber plates
