2005 MCS - Completely Stock Dyno

I went to Edge Motorworks in Dublin, CA for their Hot Dyno Nights to get a baseline dyno for my 2005 completely stock MCS with 2000 total miles on the clock. Results were ~154 whp and ~141 torque. Third run dropped off badly due to heat soak. No ice or other help on the I/C. A/F was off the chart rich at higher RPMs. We'll see what happens after a few mods.

That's what I'm talking about in my thread here:

Many of the 05s are really running rich and I have a feeling it could be effecting the hp numbers too.

All of 'em run rich!

When I first got my 02 S, it was so rich that there were little black dots all over the paint on the back! Pain to clean......

MTH made it better.

Apexi let's you tune yourself, but you need a wideband to dial it in. It's just one of many options...
The only way to hack this is to fool the computer by modifiing sensor signals or to reprogram the control surfaces that the ECU uses to control the engine. If you made something that dropped the MAP signal by X%, the computer would think there's less air, and squirt less gas..... but this is really getting into the guts of the cars controls, and there's a lot of thin ice one can walk over! But that's the basic idea of things like the Apexi (although I don't remeber what signals it modifies). Others do timing and injector duration... You'll see names like GIAC and UniChip etc...

The choice is yours, and none are cheap!

Dr Obnxs: So if I increase airflow (intake, exhaust) the problem will be the same or worse? It looks like a lot could be gained by just doing the ECU software and nothing else.

eVal: I read your posts in both those threads, but now I understand since I did the dyno. My car runs smooth and strong with no codes and no crap out the exhaust. But I believe that it's a waste of fuel and power to have it run so rich.
