Anyone with some numbers other than price? Also done some racing and exhaust wrap was used alot any thoughts on why or why not to use it on the mini or the S. Works great to bring down under hood temps and most of the time make's a evil sound.

The new ceramic coatings that have been developed are better then just wrapping. The coatings last longer, work better, look better and coat the header inside and out so the header does not detiorate as much.

Article about header wraps. This is on a site that is trying to sell coatings so I am sure it is a little biased but the article jives with everything I have heard about header wraps.

kite-surfer,

I am still waiting to get a header for trial purposes. Maybe this week.

The unverified and untested numbers from Mini-Mania is ten horsepower. Supersprint claims similar numbers.

We used the wrap on Porsche aircooled stuff and it worked great. I haven't applied it to the MINI yet. I'll check into that this week too. When I do the header, I'll probably do the wrap at the same time. Another trick we used is Jethot Coatings. This is almost a ceramic coating that is inside and out, and scavenges flow better due to the smoother surface.

Like I said - fun stuff under way!

For those of you waiting for 200 horsepower, it is in sight. How MINI Cooper Motorsport is getting there:

ECU tuning
Supercharger reduction pulleys
Intake
Header with Cat
Full exhaust system
Electric water pump
Extrude honed intake manifold and head

Keep an eye out here and on the MINI-Motorsport.com website.

With all those mods your not at 200 HP yet? Sorry to be so blunt. What do the #s look like?

All of the mods aren't done. I just got the pulleys today - a 10 and 15% reduction. Once you have the hub on, you can choose between reductions.

The ECU tuning is still in the works - by Garrett.

The Header is also in development.

I'm at 180 or so right now with Magnaflow, the MINI-Motorpsort Airbox mod, and the intake. The list should bring the car to over 200 with no problem - estimated at 210.

OK, lets put some individual numbers together...
+9hp for intake (Rogue Eng)
+18hp for exhaust (MagnaFlow)
+10hp for header

So that's a total of 37hp in combined gains. Add that to the 163hp and WOW you get 200hp! Can anyone, ANYONE, confirm this simple math?? Can ANYONE confirm this on a Dyno? Now just think. Add on a header, maybe a chip upgrade, a pulley? Then what? 220+ hp? mHmmm....

Randy,

How much is the Magnaflow exhaust and how much is it for most places to install? Also, how does it look in the back - can I keep the beer-can exhaust tips or at least the look? I'm curious about what the total cost of these 3 mods would cost, parts and labor.

domincminicoopers,

It isn't a linear equation, so if a single component makes 10 hp and another single component makes 7 hp, you may not get a total of 17 hp. The inefficiency that is being corrected by one component (intake) may have been addressed already by another component (exhaust) - does that make sense?

greatgro,

If you are here in the Denver area, I charge about an hour and a half for the exhaust. The intake takes less than a half hour. The Airbox mod is explained in detail here.

The intake is $239, the exhaust is $599, and the airbox mod is labor only.

The Magnaflow has its own unique tips, so unfortunately, you will lose the "beer cans". Here is a pic of the tips:

Give me a call if you'd like to order any of these.

Ok, here's the problem with that equationl....the 163bhp is at the flywheel, not the wheels. The numbers for the mods listed above are the dyno/to-the-wheels numbers. So really, if you take a healthy average baseline of about 148hp at the wheels, add the 9 for intake and 13 for exhaust and about 5-8 for the header...you get around 175hp to the wheels. Another 25hp to the wheels is going to DEFINITELY need a chip and a pulley.

Thanx for the run down on what you have done and where you are at Randy. I was just afraid that it was going two be $5000 before I could see 200 HP. I can spend $2500 and that is about all under the hood just want to put it in the right place. I will order some parts from you so I can spread the love. If you have any dyno test run stuff on sale let me know LOL. The pulley comes in wednesday the 15 should have it on Sat. let you know how it went. Also a friend is going to put a dyno at his shop here in melbourne Fl so I will get the #'s when he has it.
