Drivetrain M7 AGS......Heatshield
M7 AGS......Heatshield
We have finally finished the AGS heatshield....
After months of agonizing, we finally decided that a system like the AGS
needed a design that took advantage of....and showed of the unusual nature
of the Air Gain System. After starting out with a design
in bent sheet metal, we decided that composites would give us an advantage
design wise. This approach allowed us to direct the air stream directly in to
the filter element taking advantage of cooler ambient air temperatures.
The regular heatshield construction is fiberglass covered by a glossy layer of black gelcoat (as shown below).
The upgraded unit will take advantage of some cutting edge materials.
The upper layer will be Carbon Fiber with a deep glossy gelcoat. The subsequent layers are Basalt a fiber made from volcanic rock with
fabulous heat rejecting qualities, keeping the AGS very cool.
These unit will start to ship next week with all the back orders, and we will
hopefully catch up within a couple of weeks.
And please, if you have nothing constructive to say, start your own thread
somewhere else.....Don't ruin this one

Yes you are impatient, but you are a lucky recipient of an AGSnext week.
Unfortunatly the availability of the heatshield is limited the first couple
of weeks. But no worry it will come soon.

Very interesting. I think the raming effect will add to the filters effectiveness. Maybe costing some of the in-cabin entertainment but that also means all the noise will be directed forward as well

without a detailed view of the shape to see how much it controls air flow, it is doubtful if there is any ram air effect any more than with the stock filter and air flow system. It does appear to get a fresh charge of air from the front of the car instead of underhood air, at least when the car is moving, otherwise the air is from uner the hood. filter units like the alta, sealed to the hood interior, get exterior air exclusively, either from the cowl or from the front air intake

Cosworth car yesterday so I can show you guys how it would look on the car.
I will not have another unit until next week and then I will take some images
of the heatshield by itself.

I think it looks good and makes the end to a nice complete package. I would love to see how far down inside the engine it goes (i'll have to wait for the photo's). I have been thinking of other ways to funnel cold air into that filter area, and with a shield like this,it will only help direct that cold air into the right places. Testing very soon!

This could just be the pictures, but the heat shield cuts down on airflow to the top of the filter, do you have any idea of how much the airflow was reduced? Also what about change of heat, any numbers on how well this helped to keep the AGS running cool?
