Right now I've got a Miltek extractors, fat cat and a Scorpion cat back. Now, let's say if I keep everything but the Scorpion mufflers that hangs in the back and replace it with a straight pipe that goes under the battery box, am I likely to gain anything or in fact loses power? Ignore noise and cops for a second as I intend to use this on the track only.

 

You would lose some back pressure which would hurt the torque some, but you would gain some hp in the higher revs. The biggest benefit from dropping the mufflers would not be the hp gain but the weight loss. If you are planning to go this route why even run a straight pipe out the back? Just let the exhaust gas exit from underneath the car.

 

i have scorpion exhaust and first i want to ask you is whether or not have you had either muffler come loose? it's happened to me just recently and another time just a few days ago.... im beginning to wonder should i just weld the dam thing so i dont have to worry about it...

to answer your question... i ran it with one muffler and another without muffler for a few days... there's a small noticeable gain up top... if u rev near 6 grand alot, then you'd defenitely feel the car is livlier...

but torque loss down low is absolutely horrendous.... it could be due to the fact i got one with a muffler and one without, but if you run a straight pipe i think the effect would be even more pronounced

 

I agree with Fangio, forego the pipe, just run it straight out of the cat, maybe add a turn-down to keep the heat shields from getting too dirty

For the track it's a pretty good idea. You lose a few pounds and gain some hp in the upper RPMs, I say go for it.

 

Where is the exhaust coming lose? I'm not familiar with the scorpion exhaust but probably the best way to go would be to have it welded, but you could also try muffler clamps.

 

And yes my comes lose every now and then - you can hear it when it becomes really loud but after 30 seconds or so, it's back to normal. That's the kind of noise I am after

 

I believe that macncheese dynoed his then-stock MCS with the back half of the exhaust disconnected and got zero gain in power.

I've not had my Scorpion mufflers come loose, but I've never been completely happy with the clamps making a perfect seal for each muffler. I've considered too just having a shop straighten it out and weld the connections. I think that is the only way to get it "right". I even doubled up the clamps (2 on each side), and if I put back pressure against the outlets while running, I still detect a small leaks at each joint. I did however, install a 3 inch (2 1/4) band clamp on the straight pipe that connects before the Y, and cranked that sucker down, and that made a really good seal.
