Tuned by.....El Diablito Rojo-N20Mini

Today I had the apexi installed in my car, what a difference tuning makes ! No more flat spots, wot it freakin screamin now !

Before the Apexi my car had a sputter around 6400 and a flat spot around 3000, both are gone now and my car runs much more like it should. I am going to try to get to the dyno this coming week and see what my car is doing now that it has the goods and a tune to make it all work together.

I want to say thank you to El Diablito Rojo-N20Mini for helping get the initial tune on my car. I really apreciate you taking the time to drive around with me and help get the car in tune untill we get some dyno time.

Just for the record let me add I see alot of people jumping all over El Diablito Rojo-N20Mini for what he has done, has not done, his opinions and his frank discussions of good bad and what works and what doesnt.

I am pretty bummed he doesnt really post here much because there are people always jumping him for calling BS when he sees it. If its BS call it.

El Diablito Rojo-N20Mini is a super nice guy without the hidden motives behind his lending a helping hand, there arent many people in this world that will freely help you and expect nothing in return.

Once again THANK YOU for your help today !

I'm thinking to get the Apexi on my car as well. I think this should work better than any of the car tune programs out there, since you can tune it to maximize potential performance of each cars.

Great Job! El Diablito

No kidding... for a pulley'd car it was running well. With some fine tuning on the dyno it should do well. I was very impressed with the way it ran. Congrats to Steve at Steve's Auto Clinic on getting the parts together on the black beauty....

Bud... can't wait to see your's complete also. I think we all should get the wive's together and do a run down over the Ortega Hwy for a little wine tasting and curvy road test

Sounds great to me, I just checked with the boss, she's in. Is the Friday thing still going on?

With regard to the Apexi, I ordered one from Steve, do you know which one Brian bought? Is it the same as yours? I am going to need you to do some fiddling with it after seeing what you did with Brians car, that was truly impressive! NO stumble, flat spots and just a STRONG pull all the way to redline.

They didn't have the Select when I got mine. Brian and Dave both have the select. Let me know when you want it I will pick you up one to bring to Steve's. As for Friday it's a go if I can get back from Phoenix in time... I want to dyno mine also

And for the record El is an A… . I don’t want anyone to get the wrong impression or find out that he really is a GREAT guy.

BTW…El, that restaurant was the best, the wife really enjoyed it.

Just Wish i had some one close by that knew what they were doing with the SAFCII. The local dyno does have the A/F metering but for somereason i wont explain. Just isnt trustworthy to make adjustment on the Mini. Maybe if i get around to putting in a good data logger with WB A/F i can touch base with you Hubie or even Eric and get to tuning it some. Since i dont have a clue on what the changes are doing when i make them im afraid of going to far and messing up the engine.

You have the Uni-chip... if it was done right you shouldn't need the apex-i. Problem is ... people don't know how to tune the Uni-chip

I just had a custom tune done by Lee Hurley of Hesco in Birmingham AL.. He took his time and did a great job.

Thanks

The one I have is the apexi afc select. It is not car specific per say and its not really a software but more of a piggyback programmer.

I spoke with ya'll about the Apexi at the dyno day in February and you had me convinced that that was the route to go. However, since then I have had some questions pop-up:
1. Chips like the MTH and the GIAC (maybe UNI) start by changing the timing. The Apexi doesn't do this. So, in your opinion, is this not necessary, or should you start with a plug-and-play chip and then add an AFC like the Apexi on top? And if so, how will this affect the commands going into the ECU since the plug-and-plays also modify the A/F ratio?
2. What's the difference between the select and standard Apexi? Is this just the difference between the version made for Japanese cars and the version made for Euro cars?
3. Is the Apexi the only software available for the MCS where you can dyno tune the car yourself? I understand that the UNI requires special dealer-only software and the MTH and GIAC only have different flashes available for specific set-ups. Is this correct?
