my JCW intake whines all the time now

I took apart my JCW intake today and removed the flap that prevents air from entering from the cowl intake...Now the wonderful whine is present at nearly any RPM. I'm going to drive around with it for a few days and see if I like it better. I know i like the sound, but the very low end throttle response has been compromised a bit. Has anyone done this also? and did you see any negative results? I guess if there are any negative results...i'll see them soon :-)

If you were just going to remove the flapper, why spend the $ on the JCW intake? that's what it is all about, being able to open at 4500PRM

Just curious...

The closed design is what gave the boost to low end compared to open designs. You just made your car slower and payed 2x as much as you needed too - congrats!

well, it started off as a project to take it all apart and see how it worked, since i didn't do the install myself and i only knew the priciple, but not how it was executed... while i was in there i figured i'd try it without the flap and see what happens. anyway, at least it draws air directly from the cowl, it's pretty much sealed off from the engine bay. methinks i'll put the flap back on after a few days though, because i notice a bit of throttle slowness on the low end. Didn't really expect to get such sarcastic remarks for trying something...but at least i can put it back together.

Edit: i probably should have explained in my first post that I wasn't doing this for performance reasons at least it sounds good
