Drivetrain JCW Intake...what filter
Diameter Measurement of Inside Collar
Greatbear, would you have any measurements of the inside collar (where the actual paper element fits onto)? I plan to buy the JCW unit and I would like to investigate the availability of suitable foam filters. Thank you

The open end is a press-fit onto the collar inside the filter lid, and the closed (opposite) end has a 'fitting' where a retaining bracket attaches and the bracket is held with a screw in the lid assembly, holding the filter in place. It would not take much in the way of a modification to fit an aftermarket filter in this area. The filter itself is placed in a downward angle approximately 45 degrees, making room for some rather long filters in the closed box. Diameters of 5 inches or so would fit nicely with no shrouding issues.

While at the Dragon I didnt get a chance to get a hold of various filters like I had hoped. I have pulled the filter box top and filter from my car and a caliper and I'ma gonna take some measurements right now.
Diameter of collar (male) inside airbox lid: 3.41" OD
Length of collar (male) inside airbox lid: .5"
Width of airbox at collar end: 6.1"
Overall length of JCW cylindrical filter: 8.1" OAL
Overall diameter of JCW filter: 4.65" OD
Length of filtering area: 6.8"
Diameter of collar (outlet) 3.375" ID (this piece is slightly elastic for interference fit over the housing collar)
It stands to reason that just about any cylindrical or conical filter that falls roughly into these dimensions can be made to work. There is not a lot of length to the inside collar of the box, but a clamp can grip most of it when placed at the end of the filter neck and keep everything in place. The JCW setup uses a press-on filter that fits snugly and has a plastic bracket holding the other end in place. A hose clamp-type of arrangement like most aftermarket filters should work on the inside with no bracket being necessary IMO.
Since the JCW filter is angled downwards and there is a vacuum canister inside the lid at the top, there should be enough room for a slightly wider (at the outlet end) conical filter to fit, but that would be a trial and error fit. There seems to be tons of room to the bottom of the housing, so if it fits in the lid, it should fit in the lower housing (which seems completely identical to the original flat panel filter housing. The JCW top fits the original bottom box).
I'd like to hook up with someone who has an aftermarket (Alta/Pilo/K&N, etc) to see if their element would fit the JCW box, if so, there is your cheap, reusable replacement
NB: After about 8000 miles my paper filter looks pretty much evenly clean, so the filter itself should be pretty long lived unless you live in a very dusty area.
Is the surface area of the JCW filter much bigger than the regular MCS filters?
Just did some online searching, Green Filters (EU) has several that will probably work. I think they all have a 15mm neck not included in length.
K285 rated to 250hp/ 85mm i.d./ 120mm base/ 100mm top/ 150mm L.
TA285 ..........226hp/ 85 ........./ 120 ............/120........ / 150
TA385.......... 271hp/ 85 ........./ 120 ............/120 ......../ 180
TA485.......... 301hp/ 85 ........./ 120 ............/120 ......../ 200
Looks like AFE filters should have something but I couldn't find it and K&N has A 3.375" I.D. 6" base/ 4.5" top but it's 9" long #RP5518 they also have a lot of 3.5" I.D. filters that MIGHT work and a Round straight filter that has a 3.375 I.D./ 5.8" O.D./ and 7.25" long. It has a 16mm neck.

Thank you for the detail measurements. Will start investigating available options. What do you think of just getting a thin flat foam filter and clamping directly over the inside collar?
