You have to look at many things, as I have learned, before making the plunge. Randy Webb and Peter from M7 both believe a 19% reduction pulley is too much while others disagree. Randy Webb prefers a 15% and Peter has no problem with a 17% - spoken to my ears by both. I have a 15% or nearly so with my 05 JCW kit.

I will be changing to a 17%, along with the AGS, Miltek header, 180 degree thermostat and perhaps the radical M7 hoodscoop. When I wrote 'many things' above, I was referring to the array of modifications among us. What works for some will not for others... A 17% feels middle of the road to me; not too conservative and not too aggressive. Go for it

It is not the Alta. Eric at Helix installed it for me.

One problem is most of the software solutions aren't tuned for a 17% yet. All are for the 15% and a few for the 19%.

I went with the 17% without software or injectors. The car ran fine and strong.
I have since added the MTH software (excellent mod).

For the price, the MTH software is definitely the way to go. The software is about $60-$70. The cable runs about $100. You may be able to borrow one and save the $100.

Like meb said above, "you have to consider many things". Myself, I am going with a 15% SC reduction pulley and, when it is released, the upcoming Alta 2% increased crank pulley. This will give me the equivalent to a 17%, but will give my belt a larger contact area (than a 17%) and also drop some rotational mass from the car. In theory, this combo will be safer and offer better performance. My only concern is what someone mentioned above about ECU's. I want to go with a GIAC, and that will work fine for my initial 15%. However, when I add the crank pulley and get closer to 17% performance, I don't know what I should do...if anyone has any ideas, let me know.
