My Day at Atco...

Went to Atco last night with Pocket_Rocket. Let's just say this...I was pathetic. Quite frankly, it sucked. There was some gambler's competition and I only got 4 runs in over 2 hours. Since it was my first time, it was WAY too long between runs. I did SO bad that I can't even bear to post my times. One run I had the DSC on! Another one I got so much wheel spin I hit the fuel cutoff...TWICE! Twice I had reaction times hovering around a second! One of my 60' times was over 3 seconds! However, one time I did post a 0.183 R/T but that was the run with the DSC on. Truly pathetic...I get better launches on the street without even trying!

I will say one thing about the strength/hp of my car...for the 60' times I had, I had very high mph. If it's true that for every 1/10 you lower your 60' time you can add 1 mph at the end, I'd be up around 100mph (well, close) with a good 60' time. With a 2.783 60' time (highest on Andy's chart), I hit 92.44mph. With a 3.025 60' time, I hit 90.82 mph. On one of those (my last run), a silly civic got a huge lead on me - what seemed like a 10 car length lead. But thank god I crushed him in the 2nd 1/8 and beat him by 10 lengths. That at least was a little gratifying.

Thank god Pocket_Rocket was there to show off the strength of the 19% and GIAC. Those being his ONLY performance mods (no exhaust or intake - just 19% pulley, GIAC and injectors) - he did unbelievably well!

He ran a 14.3 at 97+mph on his second run. Didn't get to talk to him about his 3rd and 4th as I left after the 4th. He stayed for a couple more runs so maybe he even beat that. Incredible results for just a pulley and ECU.

I will do it again but certainly won't do the 4 hour round trip for 4 runs, getting home late and having to get up 4:50am for work. I think I'll reserve drag racing to once a year MINI-only events. MINI Owners of NJ usually has one each summer.

Atco on Sundays in the winter is usually empty. I've been there with guys that do 30-40 runs. I wont beat my car like that.

Greatgro,

Email me your time and info. It will be especially satisfying when you watch your ranking go up the next time you run.

Congrats to Craig, he bumped some old-skool guys (like Frankie 14's )

For every 1/10 reduction in 60ft time you reduce the trap speed by a mph not add to it. Other then that sounds like a good time!

What? Are you saying the faster you get to 60ft, the slower you'll be going at the 1/4 mile mark???

What is the fastest time a Mini Cooper S has recorded and what were the modifications done to the car?

Eat me cheese Shouldn't you know this Mr. Engineer?
lower 60ft=lower ET and a lower mph.

Ok could someone please explain this to me? I took Physics at Rutgers as well...

If you have a faster speed at 60', how in the world would you have a slower speed at 1320'????

the thinking is that if your ET is lower, you must be accelerating for less time, therefore your top speed will be lower.

60' times are part of the ET (duh!), but the other idea is that if you have a smaller 60' time, you will have hooked up sooner and therefore will be accelerating for a longer distance, which will also drop your ET.

the rate at which you accelerate, assuming you have hooked up, is a function of your effective horsepower and weight.

It's definitely a funny relationship, but it seems to hold true. Get lots of wheelspin off the line, make smoke, get a bad 60-ft time, and you'll get a crappy ET but great trap speed. My quickest runs felt "boring" because the car hooked up without drama off the line.
