Alta 15% pulley worth it?

O.K. I am signed up for one of Randy Webb's pulley parties in the near future. Even though I have read numerouos posts about the 15% pulley I just need to be reassured. Is there a seat of the pants difference in the pull of the car? How big of a change will this make. Other than my new Rogue short throw shifter this will be my only mod for a while.
Thanks,
Justin

I only had one word after I got my 15% pulley put on...wow! (and yes, that was a technical assessment)

this is the BEST bang-for-the buck mod that I know of for the engine itself. add iridium plugs, plug wires, and a GIAC and you already have a sweet engine purring beneath the bonnet. add the little mod of losing one muffler, and some nice sway bars and you're set for life!!

Na, don't waste your money. (snicker, snicker) You'll just be left in the dust by all the Mini's that have them.

The best thing you'll ever treat yourself to MINI-wize. I had mine installed at AMVIV along with an Alta intake and Milltec exhaust. The car pulls like a demon, the sounds-to die for.

watch out, Randy has a tendency to break the SC bearing when
removing the pulley.

... j/k

the 15% made the car feel alive. to me it wasn't an eye popping
improvement but i can definitely appreciate the added torque.

The pulley will give your car a whole new punch & the test drive Randy will take you on after the install will blow you away too. You definitely won't regret it, Randy is the best. My car has the 444th pulley he installed and that was back in November.

Randy's "test drive" is worth the pulley by itself. I just got my underware back from the cleaners.

Is the Alta 15% pulley worth it? I would have to say YES! For the price you pay even if you pay to have it installed is worth it. My only suggestion is if you don't consider your driving style "spirited" then save the money for aesthetic mods or something else. If you don't drive your Mini hard than why spend money on performance mods right?

the 15% pulley is a must. If you can afford to, get the Alta Cold Air Intake also. The car will hiss and whine like crazy after those 2 things. It really turns into a Demon.

Pulley Maintenance ??

Hey everybody  ,

I put at least 30k miles a year on my Mini.

If I were to get a 15% pulley, what type of things do I have to consider in terms of maintenance?

How often should I visually inspect the belt?
How long should I expect it to last reliably?
What other types of questions should I be asking?

Thanks in advance,

Daniel

Does installing a pulley void the warranty? I've been contemplating changing out the pulley on my soon-to-arrive '05 MCS and have heard mixed messages regarding what this will do to the warranty.

Thoughts?

Is the pulley puller generic or is it specialized for the Alta pulley? The puller costs almost twice as much as the pulley. It sounds like that would be something for the local Mini clubs to buy for it's members.

Just buy your pulley from Randy @ WMS. Then you don't have to worry about buying a puller...he loans his for free.

I recommend the Alta pulley as the best 'first mod'. Best bang for the buck, first rate quality, butt-dyno approved!

I am glad to see that Alta extended their line to include 17% and 19% offerings.

Inspect the belt every so often...most people just peak at it whenever they are checking fluids.

You will probably want to go ahead and replace the belt with the new pulley...not becuase of sizing but more of a "while you are at it" type of thing.

How long should I expect it to last reliably?
The life of the SC would be my rough guess. I know there are cars that Randy has done that have well over 100K miles post pulley install. It is a pretty safe mod to do.

At best it could void your SC warranty if the dealer was able to prove the pulley was to blame for a failure.
