Drivetrain Cooper S Intake Icing?
Cooper S Intake Icing?
I think I had an ice build-up in my Throttle Body this morning while
driving in Nevada through the mountains with outside temp between
25-32 degrees f. I have the Alta intake on the car and I believe
the conditions were just right with the Temp. and moisture in the air
to form ice in the throttle body from the venturi effect.
I took the car up to about 115 mph on a lonely highway
and the engine suddenly sounded like it was running on 2 cylinders with loss of power.
I backed off and it didn't get better. I stopped to checked
spark plug wires and they were fine. After a couple minutes I started
the car and it ran fine. This happened twice.
I am a pilot and remember that aircraft sometimes have
carburator icing problems. That's why they have a "Carb
Heat" lever to melt the ice, or prevent it from accumulating.
I think the Alta intake ,that uses the air from the cowl below the
windscreen, was sucking in too much cold, moist air.
Has anyone else had this happen to them??
Or if not, put this in your memory banks so your not beating you head
against the wall trying to figure out what is wrong with your car.
