Drivetrain Manifold upgrade and remap question
Manifold upgrade and remap question
Hey, got a 02 mini cooper s r53 and I am planning to do some upgrades. Right now it has an exhaust (without resonator) and air filter “upgrade” (forgot brand on both). I found a leak while changing the exhaust. Can’t confirm it’s a leak but the whole manifold is very lose and easy to bend and the flex joint cover was completely loose looking from above. I can also hear the sound very loud when inside the car and it all points to a leak so I’m confident to buy a new one.
when I was looking at manifolds the 4-2-1 manifolds mention a remap is required? Specifically stage 2? That made me worried for no reason and then I read forums and someone says the o2 sensors will adjust themselves and others say that’s complete bs and remap will get most effect.
I also have a harmonic damper which is broken and to replaced with a new belt. It’s not broken but makes chirping sound and this I’m sure it’s from the damper.
TL:DR question is will I need a remap with a new 4-2-1 manifold, exhaust, air filter and harmonic damper upgrade or is it fine and I might lose a few hp, but car won’t be running lean just from that right?

You should not need a remap with those mods but your car will almost certainly benefit from it.
I have CAI, 17% pulley, 380cc injectors and catback exhaust on stock tune. I want a tune but I'm sort of waiting until I'm "done" with engine mods.
