Dinan High Flow Cowl Induction System

Does anyone have any expereance with the Dinan cold air intake? It looks to me to be just like the Cooper Works unit with out the valve to quiet the operation below 4500 RPM. Dinan = $250.00, Cooper Works = $450.00. Can anyone out there help? thanks,

I have one that is still in the box. I can get some photos of it if that helps, but I won't have a camera until tomorrow late evening.

Thanks

Photos would be great, and can you explain how the connection thru the cowl is made.
How does it look in person?

I have the Dinan intake, but can't tell you what the difference is between the Dinan and the "Works" system, (having never seen the Works cold air resolve). I would be happy to take a shot of the install for you, or fax/scan whatever the install directions. Let me know.

difference

From what I can tell, the main difference is $200.00. I have seen the works kit and it has a flap that opens up above 4500 rpm, has to be wired into the harness. It has a panel that they replace that allows access to the cowl. My main question is how does the Dinan get access to the cowl? Any pictures of this area would help me.

Thanks,

Sorry it took so long to get the photos to you - I had a few very bad things happen in my life over the past week and I am getting back on track now.

So, this intake sucks exclusively outside air through the cowl vent on top of the hood? What about when it rains? Is that what the flap is for?

Does anyone know how this matches up against other intakes like Alta, BMP, or even the HAI? (direct comparisons, not vendor to vendor claims)

Any cutting needed to install the dinan? I have to say I just put my ALTA up for sale because I like the DINAN's subtleness. Probably gives a few hp as well which can't hurt!

I like the foam filter on the Alta better and I am considering using the Dinan box with the Alta filter.

I think all the filters are pretty comparable as long as the size remains consistent. I'm contemplating keeping the silicone hose from the Alta and using it with the Dinan intake when I get it.

In my experience as a motorcycle mechanic I have found the foam to have better filtering qualities than the cotton-gauze filters. But that is another debate & thread.

I'm running an alta but just got the works air box. I'm going to install the new jcw flaping box soon. I wonder if anybody here has gone from an alta to a jcw intake system and cares to share their experience.

In regards to the foam filters working better.......

They are better than paper or gauze, but only when OILED CORRECTLY. A dry foam filter will do a poor job at keeping dirt and dust out. Is this fact assumed by everyone or did I miss something important and am speaking out of place?

On another note.... will an Alta filter work in a BMP/ProMINI CAI? I just like the looks of the chrome shield.

Also, it shows the Dinan requiring a stage 3 engine software upgrade??? What is this???

JCW Intake and Cat Back Exhaust...

Check this thread to see what El Diablito Rojo is talking about: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=36812

My '04 MCS w/ the JCW Intake and Zoomer's Cat Back exhaust (158.8 WHP, no pulley or chip mods) did 4 WHP better than a Dinan kit (154 WHP from Dinan Intake, 15% pulley, some sort of Chip mod, Zoomer's exhaust, upgraded spark plugs and wires).

Dunno if it is an isolated incident or a problem with that setup.

The nice thing about the JCW Intake is that it looks/fits like the stock intake and it has less audible SuperCharger whine under 4500 RPM, but opens right up and sound great when you need it to. Great for a daily driver.

Maybe I would have done better if I wasn't running some cheap *** Arco 91 octane gas (sorry, was almost out of gas the other day and there wasn't much else around)?

Dave, I didn't get a chance to look at your fuel curve but the Dinan was just "AWFUL". All of the jcw's were ugly also except for Dave Lefevre's which was controlled by APEX-I. Remember Dave's is NOT a stock JCW...LOL

Were all the JCW's "ugly" rich?

How do you get into the Dinan cowl induction air box to change the air filter?
I know this is an old thread but I’ve looked everywhere for hours now. In every search this thread keeps coming back.
Bought a 2002 Mini S that has a Dinan cowl induction air intake. From what I can see the air filter is filthy. I very experienced at ‘mechanicing’ on cars & have removed screws & bolts, pushed & pried on everything I can or even can’t see.see.
Dinan website is no help & what little similar info I’ve found is almost useless. I get the impression that I need to remove the ECU to get to some other screws but the ECU doesn’t seem to want to come out of it’s plastic box either.
Pried on a couple plastic tabs inside the ECU box on the left, drivers side. No luck.
It shouldn’t be that difficult to change an air filter.
Maybe someone has the Dinan instructions? Sure would appreciate some info. Some good photos too!
Thanks.

Hmmm, wonder if there's something caught somewhere, simply looking at the above pictures it seems to be the same as the JCW, simply remove the 2 front screws that connects the top to the bottom and work the tabs out of the rear slots....
