I got bored one day at a pulley party in Minnesota and decided to yank my CVT **** off and it was quite easy, and put the S shifter on for the cheapest short throw ever...Free! I was able to keep a buddies old S shifter when he got his Whalen!

Hmmm, I assumed it would twist off, or something. I tried when my MC arrived, but thought I would just have it switched by pros @ Webb Motorsports when I have my suspension done. But if you can do it yourself, why not? I'm going home to yank my **** right now.

For that last time, I'm NOT going to what...?, remove both seats, straddle the lever leveraged against (I suppose) the floor, and I expect, rip out my transmission... ! I'm gonna be payin' for this car for 4 years, and I'm sure they would figure a way to void my warranty!! I'm not embarrassed to fall short of being mistaken for Lou Ferrigno, but with the resistance I've gotten so far, I'm not gonna chance it!

Have you tried opening your sunroof and attaching a lifting crane cable to the ****? It should pull off before the MINI is lifted more than a couple feet in the air!

We need a video file on how to do it.
Hire the three stooges to demonstrate.

At one of our driving school events one of the students pulled off the **** on his MCS during the emergency braking exercise. Guess he was "nervous"

If you want to not straddle the e-brake you can sit in the driver's seat (nice and comfy) and shift the **** into 2nd gear and grab hard and pull with a tremendous yanking force but not in the direction of your face when you pop off the ****.

Don't be like him!

Don't bother your MINI mechanic with pulling the ****.
My mechanic at the last visit replaced the wipers and put the metal blade back on backwards so the outer third of the wiper rubber didn't lie flat on the windshield. I found it and fixed it myself after I had to figure out what happened. I love puzzles- it would be a nifty practical joke to play on another MINI owner

I got mine off without a problem...but the first time it came off I was giving someone a demo ride with some spirited driving and shifting, and it came off in my hand. That new Whalen is never coming off though. SOLID!

---It looks great too!

I first tried pulling mine off when the weather was pretty cold. I waited until a relatively sunny day and let the interior soak in the sun for a few hours. With a sun warmed shifter, the **** came off with probably half the effort that I tried when it was cold. If it's still freeze-*** cold where you live, try putting a heating pad on the shifter.

What about that plastic collar?

Has anybody removed the plastic collar on the shifter? It looks like the bottom part is there to hold up the boot, but what about the top part? I can't tell if it's keeping me from seating my MOMO shift **** all the way down.

Has anybody removed this or at least filed down the top part?

Maybe you should start a thread. You know, get a bunch of other people together that want/need to pull/replace their *****. Maybe even call in a professional.

Hope that helped:smile:

vladimir, have you tried an air chisel, air hammer, pliers, and/or a welding torch? You can't say you've really tried until you've exhausted ALL possibilities

You can use a hack saw, saw off the top 4" of your shifter, then you can get the new **** attached, and have a "short shifter" at the same time

Just some more ideas to lighten the mood after your attempts...I have a feeling I'll be in the same boat when I change out my shift ****...all the yanking, and nothing to show for it (funny how a MINI can imitate life in some ways, didn't you hear you could go blind if you yank on it too much?)

Although, being married for almost ten years, does that mean my yanking skills should be perfected at this point, and yanking my **** should be a simple process?

Dave.
