Beyond service mode

It keeps getting deeper and deeper, lol. After successfully servicing the supercharger I’ve decided to go further, I’ve ordered the parts and after watching all the videos I feel confident I can handle the challenge of dropping the transmission to install a LSD and new clutch. The videos I’ve seen, the clutch is done while the transmission is still attached. Would it be easiest to drop the whole unit after fluids and axles removed? Or would it be easier to disassemble the clutch first before dropping transmission?

I'm struggling to follow you here....

The pressure plate is attached to the engine by way of the flywheel. The clutch disc itself 'floats' on the splines of the transmission between these two parts when the transmission is installed. While it would be physically possible to unbolt the pressure plate with the transmission still on, there is no point as you cannot remove the clutch disc or pressure plate until the transmission is removed. Is it possible you weren't watching mini-specific videos? Granted, in 98% of manual transmission vehicles this configuration will be the same.

Drain fluids, remove transmission, disassemble/replace clutch. Install LSD. Make me jealous. Reassemble. Easy :-)

Depending on the equipment and space you have, it will generally be easiest to remove the transmission only. It would be easier to remove/reattach the transmission with the engine removed; but its not worth it for me, even with a lift.

+1 on megaDan's advice. I would be interested in seeing the videos of someone swapping out the clutch with the transmission still attached since the clutch resides between the motor and the trans. Also, don't forget to replace the rear engine seal when installing the clutch.
