Drivetrain R56 auto to manual conversion
R56 auto to manual conversion
Anybody had try to convert there N18 mcs auto to manual here with luck? Am planning to convert on summer but i need any opinion to those successfully swap there tranny to manual😁
Sell it and buy a manual, don't even bother. You could run into all kinds electronic engine control tune issues, Hill holder option on standard is great, and you would have to figure that end of things out as well if you want it.
You could try it but I think your opening a big can of worms, i work for MB, I would never attempt this on any of the newer vehicles, way too much grief with electronics. MB programming and coding is all set by factory i am sure mini/bmw is the same if not worse. I have heard of some real horror stories if the train comes off the track, your car will be at the dealer for days and cost you thousands, not hundreds of dollars. Plus you will probably have to get a custom engine tune, or somehow bypass the security measures and install a ecu from a manual vehicle, if the car every has a network com issue good luck getting it fixed, probably even the dealer would not want to work on it. All these new euro cars have the serial numbers written to the ecu's to match chassis, abs brakes, etc. everything is networked together. Thats why I said dont bother, unless your a computer programmer and auto tech.
Bottom line: it's possible, but takes specialized coding knowledge. I know a person in NJ that did it. As mentioned above, the most difficult part was the coding. He got some help from a person on a BMW forum.....who probably would code it remotely for a price. PM me if you want and I'll see if I can get the contact information.
