Spin on Oil Filter Conversion Kit F56

Do you think this filter adaptor is worth it? It says it drops temps by 5 degrees.

Im fine with the oem one, Do you think this is better?

Subscribe on this one.
I've read on these and have been considering them.
Want to see if anyone has it and what they think.

I think if you are still under warranty, you probably should skip this mod. Any engine issues will be blamed on it.

I had something similar to this many years ago on another car, it worked fine.

The ad lacks objective data. What’s the pressure differential for that as compared to the stock system? Lower oil temperatures? At what conditions? I’d stay away.

Looks good.. I'd try to find another vendor other than Sneed though. Their products are all overpriced vs other vendors..not to mention many are mislabeled or not even for the right gen Mini. *After you look them up on FB and see all of their spam accounts for advertising $$.. you start to get a real yucky taste in your mouth.

I've never known of a company to publish the pressure differential, so I guess we'd never know on this one or the original. And I never seen fittings to install gauges to find out. But I could 'assume' they would be similar to the average canister filters. I'm with the understanding the non canister filters are the same as they are in a sence in a container also. What is the oil pressure of the engine in question ?

It seems to me the concern is if there is enough room to install and remove without spreading oil everywhere and close the skid plate door. Will the filter be the same micron filtration as the original, or better/worse ? The cost has to be cheaper for the replacement filters than the stock filters.

I’ve been looking at these for a while now. Just been waiting for someone else to be the test subject. It costs ~$199 regardless of who you buy it from. That was the going price the last time I was looking at it anyway. The quality of the filter depends on how much you want to spend. Even the K&N filters are way less expensive than OEM. Everything I’ve read says that you can change filters using the little flaps in the belly pan. That’s not so important for me because I’m going to replace mine with a Rennline aluminum pan. That has to be dropped to change the oil.

this link is for the manufacturers website. It answers most questions.

$200? Hmm!!
What happens the day you go to spin off the filter, and the gasket gets stuck, the whole assembly spins off and what mess.
Its a fact of life
It also looks to me that the factory element has more area than that spin on.

Last but not least recycling just a paper element is more efficient than a metal can.

If you torque the adapter to spec there should never be a problem with it inadvertently coming unscrewed. Same thing with lubing the o-ring/gasket on the spin on filter before installing. Even the Mini filter housing has been known to crack if you don’ t Lube the o-ring or over tighten it. The only thing that would spill is the contents of the filter anyway. Unless you neglect to drain the oil first.
As far as recycling the cans... I just mail mine to General Delivery 90210.

I’m planning to try one in the future, but I just sprung for new coil overs and can’t afford it right now. I started a thread a couple years ago to ask if anyone had tried one. Got several opinions, but no real world experience. They’re still in business so I would guess that someone is buying them.

It is a quality piece. No change in oil temp or pressure over stock. I don’t worry over loss of filtration area compared to stock as you can now use better quality synthetic media filters. The point of it is to make changes quick, easy and mess free, thus encouraging you to change oil. I would not follow the bmw schedule on this engine, given the history of valve deposit issues.

I have similar devices on toyotas which are even harder to contend with. No issues there either.

However, if still under warranty, take it off before going to a dealer. They will absolutely void any and all engine issues one might have due to the use of a non-factory part. That is standard bmw policy and it doesn’t matter how insignificant the part.

K&N makes a decent synthetic cartridge filter for the F56, but that’s the only one I’m aware of at the moment.
