R53 mod questions.

To anyone that has modded their mini I'm curious about what kind of power a mini can make with just a 17% pully, exhaust, an intake, and a tune.

IMO you don't need a tune with the first three items. The pulley is the big item as the rule if thumb is that when you increase the boost by 15 PSI you double the horsepower. The 17% pulley will give about 7 more psi at WOT so you can do the math based upon what year R53 you have.

To quote Michael Jordan (not the ball player): "If you can't go fast on 90hp, 900 won't help you."
The pulley is a great add but to get the most from it the very best mod you can make is a heavier adjustable RSB and performance struts like the KONI FSD. You won't believe the difference in handling it will give you.

I did a 22mm rear swaybar first before I added the pulley.

It's a slippery slope. The MINIs come out of the box very well balanced as far as chassis configuration and power train goes. Once you change one thing, you need to balance out others, usually at the expense of some (at least a little bit) longterm reliability.

If you are going to up the power of your motor, you should consider raising the capabilities of your suspension and brakes.

There might also need to be consideration of the overall chassis, such as engine mounts, strut braces, etc.

Like others here, to take full advantage of the pulley, you should also look into a custom tune. At 17%, I have also read recommendation for bigger fuel injectors.

Fun stuff!

I did the 17 on my car shortly after I bought it, I am not sure of the actual power increase but you can sure feel the difference. I drove it for almost a year before installing 380cc injectors and the jcw tune, and wow what a difference in throttle response and over all feel of the engine. But I would look at all you suspension parts, ball joints, lca bushings, shocks struts and check for mushrooming strut towers.
