Cooper s r53 boost question!!

Hi im super new to minis and this forum so if this is in the wrong place I apologize... so i bought an 03 s about three months ago and it has an alta 15% sc pulley, alta 2% lcp, k&n custom intake.. so I installed a boost gauge and it was buzzing really bad so i read to put a piece of cotton ball in the vaccuum line to quiet it, which it did but now it seems to be only reading 12 psi at full boost, when before i could of swore it was around 14 psi(which i may be imagining)... so my question is would the cotton ball affect the boost reading and is 12 psi normal for the mods im running?.. ive had several mini drivers say 12 psi is about right and other saying it shouldn't be lower than 15 psi.. and i know the boost gauge line isnt kinked thats the first thing i checked. Do i have a boost leak? Or is it jus the gauge? Any feedback would be appreciated

I am thinking it is like 10 for OEM system. As you have a 15% pulley 12 PSI would be logical.

Yeah 12 sounds right, ive got a 16% reduction, 2% overdriven, cheap intake, and an alta catback and am making just barely 15psi.

What kind of boost gauge did you buy? Ive never heard of one buzzing before.
