P1685 fault code after tune

Over the weekend did a RMW Cam, Tune and 450 injectors. Getting P1685 (Electronic Throttle Control Monitor 2/3 Clutch Torque Max) fault code, not all the time but have not driven once since that the code has not come up.

I have checked the crank pulley (it is tight and does not move in upon force of pressure), the BPV (the linkage can be pushed and the spring in the solenoid will pull it back) and the Throttle Body (cleaned it and put some dielectric grease on the plug connections). Still get the code when letting off the gas peddle and the revs are down in the 1100 RPM range. Low revs do not always trip the code but it does appear that low revs and slight bump can. Just driving over the 1" step at the garage door that keeps the rain from running back in has tripped the code twice

I am going to a leak test on the boost system tomorrow.

Anybody had this type of issue??

Have you talked to Jan, this can sometimes happen after a tune, esp if the weather is colder.
Talk with him first, many times it's not a mechanical fault but an adjustment on the tune.

The cold weather tune issue is years old and Jan has that addressed. I may have found a leak in the connection between the BPV and the black supercharger duct. Removed the euro clamps and put on some good old american worm drives. Keeping my fingers crossed this is it.

No luck, going to get a Bentley Manual. Ran rougher after I tightened the clamps.

I am wondering if the 07/08 R52 has a different ECU program than the R53. I have asked Jan to confirm or not.

From what I have found on the web, P1685 has a primary sequence of (TQ_MAX_CLU_MON) with a parameter of 220 to 250 nm. The secondary sequence is (LV_TQ_MON_ACT_MON) . The monitor length/frequency of checks is 0.24/0.04 seconds.

I have not heard anything from Jan.

Bentley says check your connections at the throttle and the pedal, it does have some electrical test values for the pedal but it's not very helpful on this code

P1686 is monitoring of peddle values, P1685 is the clutch, but I will take anything I can get at this point.

I'll send you the pics at lunch in a few minutes, it's something to do with pedal input vs torque produced, I guess it makes so much more power that the ecu thinks the throttle valve is stuck open?

Got Tune.03 file today and so far so good. Will keep my fingers crossed that 3rd time is a charm.

The 3rd tune increased the idle to about 1,000 rpms. Engine pulls well, 4500 to redline is sweet. The Dominator cam adds a nice low end rumble. Had a buddy in the car earlier in the week, neither of us are too small and he was quite surprised at how well the car pulled.

Have not driven a Gen2 or 3 JCW but from past cars, it is really close to the s2000s that I had that were 240 BHP. Quite satisfied with the results.

My cranks are still the same. It does seem to be more sensitive to stalling at low revs.
