Drivetrain Dinan intake
#2
Dinan
I got the whole set up, CAI, throttle body, ECU upgrade, Exhaust, etc. so I can't say how much performance is attributible to the CAI alone. I can say the sound is ___very____ nice!. At lower revs it is not all that noticable although it adds a little flavor. On hard acceleration it sounds very good. Deep, vacumn like sound, and At higher revs it is really sounds like it is going to suck your shirt right through the dash. It compliments the exhaust note in a symphony that makes you want to keep your foot in it all the time! Great mod.

FWI, had a Dinan intake in my '04 MCS and was happy with the sound level and perfomance added. I swapped it for a Alta kit which is probably incrementalty better in terms of performance but I find the noise level when you tip into the throttle to be annoying and obtrusive. I'm going to re-install the Dinan intake. Other mods I've got include the 15% pulley, Milltek catback and the Webbmotorsports tuned Unichip, which just dynoed this past weekend at 166.4 at the wheels.

can't wait to get my MCS
i appreciate the responses. I also found some interesting comments on the FAQ regarding the intake. I will probably go with the Dinan CAI, the 19% pulley, the cooler plugs and then at some point do the exhaust and the ECU upgrade. Before I do the exhaust I want to hear the new exhaust sound. The improved performance is important with an aftermarket exhaust, but I have done an exhaust mod before on other cars and living with a loud exhaust can be dificult. Some days you do want to hear the radio.

BERKY - Re the exhaust. I 'm very pleased with the Milltek cat-back on my '04 MCS. It's barely louder than stock, has shown real gains on the dyno per Webb Motorsports and the tail pipes look like the JCW. It wakes up when you are on the throttle hard but it's not obnoxious or ricey. I'm a 52 year old CFP and I can't afford to rattle my clients too much!

Thats 166.4 HP at the wheels. Depending on the dyno used and factoring for drivetrain power loss you can add typically 15-20% to arrive at the estimated HP at the crank. The "Dyno Dynamics" unit at Yarrow Sport "estimated" the HP at the crank on my car to be 199.7 HP.

I like my Dinan but besides stock it is the only one I know. I chose it because Joseph at R-speed said it was the quietest. It has a nice sound when you get on it but not too loud that it "ruins" the ride. (I'm 54)
