Looking for the perfect exhaust

Im looking for a loud exhaust. Something that is loud and really lets out every crackle. also something cheap. Straight pipes would be difficult because of the battery box. i have a r53. i was wondering how the ireland engineered exhaust performs. if i got a resonator delete how much would that change the stock tone? any input would be great!

On the low end that is loud and less cost is the Megan racing, for the best sound I would go with the Milltek non resonated for a louder sound.

How big of pain is to do that exhaust in the drive with jack stands? 2008, so the original might need more persuading?

I've always been a fan of the Milltek on the R53. Makes dyno-proven power without being overly loud or immature. Just the right amount of tone in the cabin.

Its not that bad, in the R52 is a little more as you have the narrow rear tunnel and the extra support in the back . That exhausts above is for the R53, You will need the R52 MINI Cooper Convertible S Milltek :

https://www.ecstuning.com/News/MINI_...006_2007_2008/

Like all exhaust you start from the front and hang up the rear loose , like a mock up, then line everything up and tighten front to rear.

Milteck/Stratmosphere sounds nice...kinda deep, mature....basically the same(stat is just a copy with a different finish, lower price)..not the loudest...but you can install it without the resonator in most cases...makes it louder...
if you just want loud, raspy, FART CANNON sound....lots of options....heck...the local custom shop can just bolt one up....but they USUALLY DRONE at highway speed...just like many of the cheap units.....

http://www.waymotorworks.com/stratmo...3-hardtop.html
If you have an 02-06 R53 MINI Cooper S this is the catback exhaust you want. The stratmosphere is the most beautiful exhaust on the market in every way. The look, the sound, the fitment, the craftsmanship. You get dialed-in fitment with hand-finished components by the builder topped off by double-chrome stainless WMW tips. This system is extremely easy to fit very quickly and behaves with a sound that everyone will enjoy. Systems are fully stainless inside and out and have been tested and verified at our USA headquarters. This is a full catback exhaust system. It bolts directly to the flange behind the factory cat so no cutting or welding is required and your emissions is NOT effected. The stratmosphere catback is made entirely of stainless steel so it will most likely outlast the car. This MINI Cooper S catback exhaust will improve the exhaust flow while balancing the back pressure to give you maximum torque gains. But at the same time this exhaust will give you a nice tone, a little louder than stock, and no ricey honda sound. Also is has NO DRONE on the highway, a big plus as this is a common problem with most other exhausts. Way Motor Works uses this exhaust on his person car, and 2 other family members MINI's, so that says alot. Non Resonated version does NOT have a front resonator only rear mufflers and will be a little louder than the resonated version. It could also drone without the resonator depending on your setup. The Resonated version does Not drone.

Milltek catback exhaust for your 02-06 MINI Cooper S. Developed on the dyno by Milltek Sport you have the best system we have ever seen for the Mini Cooper S. Developed on the dyno by Milltek Sport you have the best system we have ever seen for the Mini Cooper S. The smoothest flow possible, larger mufflers to keep the sound level down but flow up. Your choice of tip styles. A must for anyone serious about improving performance on their Mini Cooper S with a genuine UK-manufactured system. Major benefits of the Milltek Sport Mk1 Mini exhaust systems:
Dyno-developed
Stainless steel construction throughout (even inside the mufflers)
Sound quality that can be heard outside, but pleasant inside NO DRONE on the Sound
NO DRONE on the Highway
True bolt-on installation
Tested and enjoyed in the USA by Stratmosphere
Lifetime warranty on all exhaust systems NEW OPTION: Now available without the front resonator to be louder and more aggressive and MORE AFFORDABLE.

you will find that the mounting locations changed on all exhausts....so there is a split...usually with the split, the is a SLIGHTLY crimped/flattened pipe to pass an extra brace that was added to stiffen up the cabrio....just read the info before you order...there is usually an "early and a late..if there is not...most shops can move the mounting studs welded on the exhaust....
some versions, like the Scorpion...from Bav-auto in the us, was made for a bit in one version, THEN the later....so sometimes it is a crap-shoot...it is a nice sound too...cheaper price, and a little more BUZZ, not quite as deep, but not annoying IMO

I bet the old studs on the cat will need to be cut off...drilled, and new studs used for mounting...not major, but one thing to consider....a local shop might charge you $100.....so MIGHT be worthwhile....it is SIMPLER to adjust it on a lift so it does not rub too!

+1 If you go the custom route most drone like crazzy , i had one and the back end rattled the trunk at speeds. Now have the JCW and no drone, Milltek is also a no drone set up. Thats what i like the best.

OP, I shopped for an exhaust for my 06 for the past month and 1/2 and listened to just about every brand that's available for the R53 and I ended up with a MILLTEK NON RESONATED and I can tell you it ROCKS! I heard about 20+ different videos on youtube and the RESONATED was simply TOO Quiet for an aftermarket exhaust so that's why I ended up with the NON RES and could not be HAPPIER! I wouldn't use the word Loud as a description but more of the RIGHT ON for a bolt on catback with a stock manifold. If you have aftermarket manifold then I would say stick to Resonated otherwise the NON will be to much for daily driving. Just my 2 cents.

+1 on non-resonated Milltek
Bring out my favorite feature on my MINI, the burble and pop.
(heated seats is #2 and rain sensing wipers are #3, FYI) 😃

Miltek is a fan favorite but it's way too quiet with the resonator, plenty of other options.i think if your going to spend the money you should at least be able to hear it.

None of the exhaust systems are cheap, but for loud check out the Alta one side exhaust system.

If you don't want a crazy loud sound that sounds good and you are going to get a header eventually get a resonated Miltek and then your header when you are ready for it. Next week Im getting a RWM street header for my R53 can't way to open up the resonated miltek even more, it is very quiet unless you give it a lot of gas

I have read that the Alta is one of the loudest. I have never done a "live" comparison to other exhaust, so I can't confirm that. On the other hand I have an Alta and it is loud. I like it but it does drone a bit at highway speeds.

The R53 I recently bought came with an ALTA exhaust on it. I absolutely love the sound. It's loud, raspy, and burbles like crazy. It's tolerable on the highway. It's a comfortable sound at 80mph in 6th gear. I can't wait to put a header in and really let it rip. I also don't daily drive the car so I have quiet options if I'm feeling civilized.

It's great that everyone recommended our Stratmosphere or the Milltek systems as they are the best exh for the R53.
But I read what you actually want and those don't sound like what you are looking for as you asked for LOUD. So in this case I would recommend the Magnaflow, it is loud and will fit alright. Doesn't make the torque like our Strat system, but more along the line of what you're asking for. And if it isn't loud enough you can cut the resonator off of it or add a header as they will both make it louder.

Good lord, if the Alta is what ya'll consider loud, then my definition is way off. My car came with an Alta and I was pleasantly surprised at how quite it is. I come from straight piped Rotaries and v8's though.

I can't imagine how quite the other aftermarket exhausts must be, mucheck less the factory exhaust!!!

those milteks are pretty quiet, my scorpion is louder and then the Alta is probably a little louder than mine then the magnaflow depending on street or race version. Miltek is nice if you plan to pair it with a header because the header will make the car considerably louder.

+1 on the Invidia. I love the sound. Hardly no drone at highway speeds and has decent numbers on the dyno. Plus, the tips look bad A.

Has anyone published dyno numbers for the Invidia? I'd love to see them. What are the gains like?

One guy published dyno numbers for stock vs. Borla Street vs Borla Race exhausts in a very good comparison video. That's the only exhaust dyno numbers I've seen.

Alta published dyno numbers, but the way they did it was useless as they had a pulley and cold air intake and an exhaust on the car. You couldn't tell how much the exhaust alone contributed to those numbers.

I can tell you the Alta sounds amazing, that's for sure. But it came with my car so I'm not sure on versus stock performance. I know theseveral cars make 10 psi stock, all my car has is an intake and the Alta exhaust and I just squeeze by 11psi, looks to be about 11.5

any catback is about a 1-6 HP gain...basically within the error tolerance of a dyno....so very hard to pin down ANY GAIN....and that is near redline....so a performance exaust is more about SOUND.
