Just resurrecting a very interesting thread and wondered if deleting the CAT is a possibility. My State is no longer doing emission testing.

If it's a street car, my question would be: Why?

You can run catless, but you'll get a code, your car will be louder and smell terrible for whoever is behind you. Aftermarket cats improved a lot over the years, so I'm not sure why people want to run catless on street cars.

The only reason I ask is I've heard it does add power. Exactly how much I'm not aware.

Frees-up power...yes, BUT...NOT by itself..!

Faster exhaust leaving the system, the more fuel is required.
So, removing the converter, the first muffler (resonator), will -
Increase loudness
Help the engine rev faster
Build more torque.
Build more horse power

IF...the engine is properly tuned for the newly increased exhaust flow.
Installing a well designed header and exhaust system will go a long way toward helping the above also...BUT, reread the bold typed, underlined sentence..!

"Smell terrible"..??
Now that's funny..!

Mike

How's that?

I've done it a number of times, notably one time when my buddies cat was stolen off his truck and he basically had a straight exhaust. It's music to my nose and reminds me of all the racecars I grew up around, though I don't think catless on the streets makes much sense.

I prefer the smell of a catless exhaust to one that has a cat, the rotten egg smell bothers me

Yes they will tune it on the dyno. Not sure the brand of the dyno but my car has been tuned a couple of times there.

I have been debating whether to go with a engine rebuild while the car is down for the Clutch, Supercharger and various other goodies but after reading this about the engine durability and how they tested and perfected it I think I’ll just have them button it up. My tuner has always had good things to say about this engine.
