Drivetrain M7 Speed Crank Pulley
I'm not speaking exclusively, or even primarily of American V8's. That's merely one tiny portion of the conversation. The main focus here is modern, factory balanced 4 cylinders. Eagle and Scat produce cranks, mains, rods, etc, for all engine types. They found the thought of replacing a factory damped crank pulley with an un-damped pulley absurd and potentially destructive.
This is different than an OEM supplying a solid pulley from the factory.
BUT, since you're using Porsche as an example, and specifically the GT3, you'll be super excited to read the following: http://performancedevelopments.com/p...enginefailure/
Performance Developments is a high-end Porsche engine builder, though, that document was actually authored by RKAutowerks, another noted BMW and Porsche tuner / builder.
I hope you found the section titled "Crankshaft Torsion and Dampers:
Torsion — The hidden problem with the crank system — and why it needs a damper" especially enlightening.
