Drivetrain Madness CAI
Madness CAI
While installing the Madness CAI, I discovered that my MCS grill ram-air intake S-shaped hard plastic hose pipe had a broken "water-trap" (I assume that's what it's for) down pipe.
This pipe had been repaired with epoxy, but it was a weak effort and the pipe failed. I only have 8000 miles on the car and it has only been to the dealer once for the mystery "knocking at 3000 RPM problem and Yo-Yo--which they claimed to not be able to duplicate.
It is a mystery as to who broke the pipe and then tried to fix it. Forget the warranty repair, as Mini will claim that I damaged the pipe while trying to put in the aftermarket CAI. With the Madness expanded cowl intake hole, I question whether the ram-air intake is a significant factor. At the moment, with the missing water trap pipe, the ram-air intake has a 1.5" hole in it where the hot air from the engine compartment can enter. Should I buy a new interconnect hose or just pull the entire thing out and seal up the airbox hole for the pipe? Any thoughts?

.... Any thoughts?i can't belive that a little hole to the engine bay air will effect anything, given the hai thread.
do an experiment: leave the hole open and tell us what it sounds like!!
