When your are there you might as well replace the turbo oil feed lines with the Detroit Tuned versions.

You might as well jet pay a shop to do it. You have to take the front end of the car off otherwise it is a huge pain. But it can be done. The oil feed line bolts are fragile so do not over torque them.

I did mine. Followed the service mode instructional video on YouTube to get access to front easier. Put it all back and on turnover leaked oil due to the banjo bolts not being tight enough. So had to remove all heatshields and do again.

Not difficult if you take your time, have tools etc.

If you want to do this yourself it is worth getting the Bentley Manual for the generation of car you have.

It has all the detail you need. Take lots of pictures. You will need them.

Now short story is;
You will need to put the car in service mode. (Remove the front bumper cover, and release the front clip and pull forward about 3 inches)

Will have to drain some coolant

Remove the heat shields

Remove the Catalytic converter

Remove the exhaust header. (The bolts from the turbo to the exhaust header are to hard to get to on the car)

You will be removing stud bolts and nuts. The stud bolts may ned to be replaced. Your call. I used all new. Use Copper anti seize

The detroittuned turbo oil line is the way to go.

Make sure you torque things right or it will leak.

Put it back together.

The turbo replacement isn't a 5min job so I would suggest getting a bentley repair manual and following the directions. It will save you a bunch of time looking, and give you all the specs too.

What I am looking for is any tips, lessons learned on replacing the turbo. Questions I have would be is it easier to just remove the exhaust manifold with turbo attached or just remove the turbo from the manifold, any tips on removing the lines, etc.

Clearances are super tight in the engine bay, so open the hood and see if you can get to all the 4 bolts that attach turbo to the exhaust manifold (I don't remember any more - was swapping engines last year and had everything out). Top 2 should be easy. It's the bottom 2 you have to worry about, and may (or may not?) require down-pipe removal for access.

If you do have to take out the DP, it's a time consuming job since it requires removal of the heat shields, which takes time. If you go that far, absolutely do upgrade the turbo oil cooler line and oil filter housing gaskets while you are in there.

Absolutely get the Bentley manual, for torque specs alone!

With good small swivel tools, you can take the manifold and turbo off with out removing the front. Last time I got the turbo off and was able to leave the manifold on. Took me about 3.5 hours. I lift helps a ton.
