This Air Filter Claims added HP but has anyone tried it on a Dyno. Not such a radical change that I might consider before I get a cone filter. What do you guys think?

It didn't specify a specific HP ammount, that's why I'm a little sceptical.

K&N makes great filters. I wouldn't buy one
to look for an increase in HP(slight..maybe).
They last forever......all you have to do is
clean them which some people may not think
of as 'fun.'

Check out K&N Filters

K&N now has their "filtercharger" flat-panel drop in replacement filter available for the S. I called K&N directly, the part number is 33-2270 and any place that carries K&Ns should be able to order it. At $35 and change helix13 has it for cheaper than the local Pep Boys I called (who's selling it for $48+ tax and shipping), so you may want just get it from helix13.

K&N does have a Typhoon Cold air system now for the "S".
You can even order it with various colors on the cold air tube.
Have just ordered mine from Summit Racing and can't wait to get it.
You remove the entire current air box, add the included heat shield, and install the kit. Seems pretty simple.

Looking at the K&N Typhoon instructions though, I'm confused as to why they don't have a heatshield that goes all the way around the air filter. In other words, they have three sides covered, but the fourth which faces the front of the car is exposed. Wouldn't that mean that the filter is prone to sucking in hot air?

Check out the instruction at http://www.knfilters.com/typhoon/69-2021.pdf

Yep. I don't carry it.

Keep an eye out for new upcoming intakes (they are trick but cost big bucks).

The monster mini intakes utilizes the largest K&N you could possibly squeeze under the hood.

Replaced my stock air filter with a K&N panel filter (OEM style replacement) and noticed a little more power. The typhoon was way to much $$$. If you want something that elaborate and have the cash to burn the Madness or BMP is the way to go. The K&N panel filter is definitely the best cheap mod I can think of. I bought mine locally for $36, but prices vary. If you want one you might be better off just ordering from helix13 who also has it for about $35 + shipping.

... it's very easy: just take out a couple of torx screws and slide the cover off; lift out the old paper filter and tuck the K&N into place ...
.... replacing bags in the Hoover is harder ...

Ditto, except the MINI. I plan on getting a MINI Madness intake when I can afford one but right now I'm running stock.

I have to say that adding a K&N drop in filter will give you a SLIGHT increase in HP and is probably the safest bet if you don't want to void your warantee. If you're not racing and/or aren't too concerned with squeezing power out of your MINI get the drop in replacement. They last forever and they give you a slight increase. I have one in my pickup truck and my two motorcycles. I plan on getting the pulley eventually so I'm not concerned with voiding the warantee.

Can't wait to try it out.

I have a K&N filter for my S. I fitted it last friday. It makes the supercharger sound louder but not noticeable bhp increase. Maybe better response but not too significant.

Question...I read on another website some rather pointed criticism of K&N's filtering capabilities. That is, more air enters the engine, but the filtering is just not as good. They said its even worse after cleaning. (...looked for the thread but haven't found it yet) Anyway, any thoughts on this??? My concern, of course, is possible impacts to the warranty. This other thread spooked me. What's the straight scoop!

I've actually read the same thing. The gist I get is that, it filters pretty darn well, but a little scudge in there is going to happen either way. No matter what, it's probably negligible and won't harm your engine. Anyone else care to share experiences/thoughts?

I have not got it yet, Delivery via UPS ground look like 2 weeks from order. Should get it the 15th.

If your worried about warrenty you can always pop the original filter back in before you take it to the dealers. There are no permanent modifications with a drop in filter. Sneaky I know. But not actually unhonest unless they ask you "Did you swap this filter out anytime?" Lol.

I do not expect to have any warrenty problems.

As you mod the car more and more you put extra strain on the engine and it might effect the life a few years down the line. But a drop in filter? Nah, I dont imagine you will have any problems!

I'll do a photo shoot if the installation for the newbies (like myself) when it arrives.

Pebble,

That would be great, as I've not delved into the innards of my engine area too much yet.

2 weeks for me as well; that's what we get for selecting "free shipping"
