What's the best way to do the cowl mod if you don't have a press? Could you cut a single large hole with a jigsaw for instance, or is there any real reason to have multiple smaller holes?

I used a 90 deg drill and a 2" hole saw. Put a piece of sheetmetal behind the shroud to prevent hitting the brake lines. I ended up making 1 large hole. Good luck.
