MINI weights...

Ok, I had just gotten a set of Intercomp scales for the performance shop I moonlight at afternoons. So the first thing on them was the MINI.

With a full tank of gas my no options S weighs in at 2574 pounds. The distribution is 62.7% front - 37.3% rear. It changes to 62.0% front and 38% rear with me in it. Still a nose heavy beast.

So, are these numbers close to what everyone else has found?

Weight confirmation

When we shipped our (also no option) S across the pond, the shipping weight was 2513 lbs. The only difference is that ours was with less than 1/4 of a tank of gas.

The 62%/38% is spot on and mine weighed close to yours as well - 2560 with a 1/2 tank of gas. I have an S with Sport, but have shed some weight through mods.

The more options you have the heavier the car obviously.

Maybe Tony B will tell us what his car weighs?

MINI Manual reports that the curb weight is 2678 and approved gross vehicle weight is 3494 lbs. With all options.

What is the gross vehicle weight anyways?

According to the Dept. of Energy, one gallon of gasoline equals 5.8 to 6.5 lbs. (I wonder if they paid someone to find that out!)

To be honest, I really don't know what my MCS weighs. I'm not going to put her on the scales nor dyno her until I get very near the culmination of this project (10:1 weight to hp ratio, or better). With that said, I can tell you that I have shed 151 pounds. With 2,400 pounds as a focus point (240hp being doable with our SC), I see no problem getting there, based upon such information as supplied here...

Going to minus 200 seems plausible considering that coilovers can help me drop another 10 to 15 pounds total. A lightened flywheel will do about the same (another 15 or so). And with two new front seats saving another 15 lbs each, that's over 200 lost already. There is more that can be done of course, but those are in the plans in the not so distant future...

Thanks for sharing 2Cool!

That sounds about right. Water weighs about 8.5 pounds a gallon. That reminds me, I need to lose the rear wiper reservoir Probably only a pound or so though... I use the wiper, but not the sprayer back there...

According to the Georgia Dept of motor vehicles site-
What does "GVWR" mean?

GVWR means Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. GVWR is the rating applied by a vehicle manufacturer, and represents the maximum total weight of vehicle, cargo, people, fuel, and other fluids together.

---------------
Or it's the heaviest darn MINI on the road before the tires pop under that load.

The 2678 pounds seems heavy because it assumes the presence of most of the heavy MCS upgrades like the sunroof, xenon lights, auto AC, etc.

Put a couple of bags of helium balloons in the interior to lighten things up a bit.
If your weight is still the same then inhale a little helium to lighten you up a bit.

My stock MINI with no weight-adding options (like 17" wheels for example) also weighed in at 2560lbs, with I believe around 1/2 a tank of gas more or less. With a lighter exhaust and no runflats, it should be a tad bit better.

Weight saving...........

I'm curious to hear about things in my MC that I can lighten up a bit. I know most everybody will say, NEW front seats, TAKE OUT the rear seats, NEW battery, etc. But I want to know more that people have done, like for instance, taking out the rear wipersprayer motor is good........then on to other weight savers (besides going on Atkin's myself) and also to even up the weight front to rear.

Weighed my MCS at the SE Divisional last weekend, in STX autocross trim and the gas on the E mark it came in at #2460 apx. #100 less than Dpayne1's. My only option is the MFSW and I'm on low tread 15 inch Falkens on SSR comps and a small battery to save some weight and a Sparco EVO-2 drivers seat and light weight exhaust.
