Hi All,

Many reports on this forum mentioned that the cold air intake will only make small different on power. So which one is more cost effective, the Air Filter or Cold Air intake? Thank you.

Ultramini,
For the MC with CVT, you just want to reduce restriction to air flow to the intake by any means.
Power gains of any sort are rather limited for this model.
Results vary for intake loudness- The BMP/promini intake and K&N intake are louder.
http://outmotoring.com/bmp_promini_cooper_intake.html for $198
http://rspeed.net/mini/item.asp?dept...p;prod=M20-145 for $195
http://outmotoring.com/k_n_cooper_ty...ir_intake.html for $200 or also at Helix13.com
Or Moss intake for $120-135
http://www.webbmotorsports.com/intake-mc.php
Or Piper vipercross for $329 for 5 HP gain- cheaper at Diamond racing

The lowest price is a drop in foam (UNIform)
http://outmotoring.com/alta_foam_hi_flow_filter.html for $40
http://www.webbmotorsports.com/intake-mc.php Unifilter $39

Gauze (K&N)
http://outmotoring.com/k_n_high_flow_filter.html for $49 or $45 at Helix13.com
http://www.7ent.com/newmini/sub.cfm?pageid=326 for $40 both foam and gauze

Or green filter for the MC-
http://www.piloracing.com/cgi-bin/st...amp;s=MCSPANEL $49.95

Some intakes don't fit as well for the CVT version. Piper vipercross?

So-Cost effective (without respect to loudness)?- I'd say a simple aftermarket drop in would work and offer a little gain maybe 1-3 HP.

The cold air intakes might offer as much as 4+ real HP. Much more cost and not all are true cold air intakes- more like mixed warm and cold air. The advertising gains are much higher estimates so don't be fooled. Best to find another MC owner with an aftermarket intake and check it out in person.
