GP Intercooler price doubles

I understand this is due to the part being, or going to be discontinued? Does BMW genuinely think anyone will pay a grand for the GP intercooler? Because everyone has it listed for $950-1000. Excuse me while I LOL.

Bugger the GP. Order a GRS from GRSMotorsport, maybe $600, same performance. Get it in black without the logos and it looks stealth.

It was bound to happen with factory performance items as the platform gets more out dated.
Besides, unless you track your car, you'll get far better cooling from a good W/M setup, for the same or less than that price. (Plus the engine cleaning benefits)

Watch the Marketplace there is always someone selling an Intercooler or 2. I know when I had m R53 I went through 4 different ones.

With the new price increase it looks like Clint at DOS better start pounding out production runs of his copper core I/C! That thing is worth the cash if the GP is now going for the same price, and has slightly better performance. Best to stay away from the GRS... The standard S I/C is better than that heat retainer. Stay as far as possible from the DFIC... It ranks dead worst at everything an I/C can be judged on! A pice of pipe would do a better job at cooling!

My local dealer actually has these for a good price considering what other vendors are charging these days...

GP Intercooler price doubles-7qbunmm.png

..but,

YIKES!
it is still quite insane!

$$$

Just bumping this because I learned today of something.

Recently ordered a few things from the dealer, one of the parts was going to have to come from Germany because they didn't have any over here --- it's the foam gasket for the JCW airbox, part # 13537558945 --- yeah I feel like an idiot for paying $9 for a stupid piece of foam but hey whatever anyways he told me that they have 88 in stock in Germany...

...so,
I'm like impressed by his access to stock amounts and inquire about the GP i/c which he's cool with and indulges my request,
punches in the number for me --- there are only 2 left in the German warehouse.

I wonder how many are out there perhaps gathering dust on a dealer shelf?

Would reckon not very many.

Reading old threads here on NAM when it was $500 is sort of heartbreaking because it is the best option (from what I've read) for the R53, but the asking price is just totally nuts.

I don't plan on an oversized i/c anytime soon though as money is much better spent elsewhere, but if I ever do the Airtec unit looks best to my eyes.

Bummer that the bigger i/c makes simple plug changes/checks such a hassle because removal is required.

Although,
I'm not planning on intense mods so chances are I'll never "upgrade" to a larger one.

I bought mine when it was bumped to $800 years ago... and had some regrets., there's no way I'd pay almost 2K now. You're a couple hundreds bucks short of a BVH or a lot of other mods that would make a much bigger difference.

Yeah,
too much money for sure...

...but such a cool Genuine bit of kit to have!

Had it on my watch list from one of the Latvian sellers because they had the best price I could find,
but couldn't bring myself to pay up such the big bucks.

$2000 is just stupid for two more rows added on to a stock intercooler

Yep, happened a couple years ago. MINI does that as production level are not that high. We tried to find mahle behr or valeo to make it aftermarket with the extra rows but they really did not want to make it.

I would just get another option, unless you have a factory GP and try to keep it original.

Nissens did finally make an aftermarket version!

I just now learned of its existence but apparently I'm late to the game because they seem to be sold out everywhere and I could not find one from any USA sellers.

Almost splurged $500 this morning with a UK supplier...

...looks like it was more like $200 when first released:

But decided not to buy after looking into current prices for all the necessary trimmings because everything added together is still a crazy price in my opinion.

The coverplate is almost NLA would reckon close to gone gone ghostworld,
some dealers showing in stock but goodgoddamighty is they got the inflations!

It kills me how prices keep going up on this stuff,
but even a little earlier with FCP at $220 was still a bit expensive in my book.

And I'd want the complete GP factory setup, don't think I'd wanna run it naked and ain't too fond of aftermarket diverters although that might actually be a good option considering the insane cost of the GP coverplate.

Then,
also add:

- 51134404668
- 51131502776
- 2 x 17517565396

Would the inner air duct really needed?

Or would it work with the regular S duct?

Okay,
apparently the GP air duct is NOT totally necessary as the stock S unit can be modifed DIY enough for proper fitment...

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post3298720

...so all in,
not bad really if you can find one of the Nissen units and don't really want or need the factory look with trimmings,
DDM makes a GP diverter:

(((slightly off-topic but inflation related)))

Went looking around NAM for GP i/c talk and ran into an old post of mine back when I bought a new JCW plate in 2021 --- not only does the reasonable price make me much more grumpy old man nowadays upon flashback reflection, but the sad sad fact that they closed down my local dealer who was absolutely fabulous tugged at my heartstrings too and I miss them so much.

Since 2021 it looks like 17517556988 has increased in price on average of $100-$175 and some places even more.

Got mine for $115 and some change & picked up at the parts counter...

...ah! The good old days.

You could go with the IC that GT Tuning in the UK makes. AFAIK its the largest IC made for the R53.

We can help you out.

We can get them from Nissens now and they are in stock overseas. ETA will update when placed on order.

The JCW ones are back: https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/17517556988/

But the GP version is NLA and no MINI dealers show stock internally.

Used market you may find some?

Just spotted a used full GP i/c kit with all the trimmings, roundabout $340 USD at the moment, but shipping from Japan is usually very expensive.

Looks like it does have one bid right now.

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp...on/d1117748658

:

I have never bought anything directly from the Yahoo Japan Auctions, but have used a proxy for small lightweight things like magazines & books.

Zenmarket was the one I used and they're legit.

https://zenmarket.jp/en/auction.aspx...de=d1117748658

They have a helpful shipping estimator and I just wild-***-guessed 10.8 pounds to punch in and see estimate with the cheapest option:

I actually wanted to click Pony Express on the dropdown menu LOL

but sadly it didn't allow that option for me!

Looks like that seller is parting out a GP and lots of goodies are available. JCW kit #14035. Roof # looks to be 1482

Neat to see!
