Throw Out Bearing Killed Trans (Getrag)

Hello!

Just wanted to put this out there for you guys. I am going to try to get this welded if not looking for a new transmission. The only thing I noticed was a small oil leak. Transmission shifted fine with no problems.

Already ordered Valeo Clutch and Flywheel kit since the car is approaching 100k mi

Wish me luck!

yea I'd weld that shut in a heart beat.

Pretty easy really.

Only thing "special" you need outside of a welder is a oven.

To get a good and strong aluminum weld you want all of the oil gone.
Cast is porous.

Best way is to put it in an oven and let it bake out slowly as well as cleaning it.

but crap, If that happened to me, I'd have it fixed in an hour or two :P

Best of luck, should be easily fixed.

This frightens me every time I hear my throw out bearing rattle at idle. Hope it works out for you, save the minis!

That is exactly what my machine shop said a couple of hours worth of work. The problem is getting the trans out. That is definitely not an hour or two worth of work. I am crossing my fingers they are able to get a good weld and the trans or lsd was not damaged. I did not run the trans dry but it was certainly low.
