Drivetrain Picked up from dealer after 11,000 mile service; notes.
First, my MCS suffered from a bad stumble. The dealer loaded the latest ECU software and also noted that they replaced some 'faulty memory' whatever that means. The end result is a much improved car with smoother acceleration noticable in ALL gears. The rest of the work was just standard oil change etc.
Now here's the intresting part. The car was not quite ready for service, according to the speedo readout, but they did the service anyway. The service manager also said something about the 'amount of fuel I am using that their readout showed'. What are they talking about? Does this mean that my driving style is such that the plugs don't get fouled (due to standard over rich mixture) ? What gives?

I believe what they did was "Erase Fault Memory". (Basically, clear fault codes).
The Instrument Cluster stores information such as fuel consumed since last service. This is accessed using the dealer's GT1 diagnostic tool.

If its anything like the software in the standard BMW models (I'm almost sure it is), it also records statistics such as how many times redline was exceeded, what the longest time over redline was, and total time over redline. Many of these stats were used against the M3 owners in the S54 engine debacle.
