Intake Inlet Tubes...

Question!

Every where I seem to see anything about intake inlet tubes they are always saying for 6 speeds only. I assume they are referring to manual transmissions.

The problem is, I have an automatic, and my inlet tube has a crack in it. Duct tape is currently holding it together, but I want to replace it. And since I'm replacing it, I wanted something a bit more "colorful" and a bit better.

Anyone know of a place that offers colored inlet tubes for an 05 MCSa?

now it depends on your definition of inlet tube.

Are we talking the tube between the airbox and the throttle,

Or the throttle and the supercharger?

From the airbox to the throttle... I'm pretty sure... yeah, it's from the airbox where I'd put a CAI (coming soon to a mini near me!)...

there all the same for auto or manual, for the supercharged minis. can get them anywhere, youll find them the cheapest on ebay. everywhere else like a store will sell them for 80-120+ dollars which i think is ridiculous.

they will need to be cut shorter as they all come long and need modification. Samco is the "name" your probably thinking of when it comes to silicone hoses for intakes and coolant

i've never worked on a r53a, (Actually I have never seen one! (hood open))

worked on a few, but they were all 02's and 03's, of which VERY FEW were auto. Honestly I don't even know if was an option early on as it was meant to be the enthusiast of enthusiasts model. (I know it was not offered JCW early on as I remember going to the mini site when i was 12 and building them and it not being an option)

Being said,

I have no idea if they are the same or not.
Most of those tubes do say manual only.
And from my google image searches ... well they turn up no results of a mcsa car.

Real oem however.. gave me the part number as
13717552223
which led me to ECS tuning for
http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Site...52223/ES35184/

shows it to be under $40! beating real oem's price of $43.15 at $38.48

looks like a slightly different shape (even taking into account the different camera angles), but main difference is that the auto tube looks to have two take off's vs the manual's one.

vs manual

Nothing to say you could not buy a y fitting and some other small tid bits and make it all work (manual tube on an auto car), but it is up to you to try it out.

Let us know if you do, and how you make it work!

Cheers!

Auto is different, has a second hole in the side. Alta used to make one, stopped. Harder to find now but they pop up. I didn't even bother with it on my auto.

well disregard what i said, i know nothing hahahahaha

but you could try a manual one with your auto just put in a pvc bulkhead in the side for the extra vacuum port.

wow... great info!!

I think I could buy one of the non-stock looking ones, and just tap in with another vacuum.

I wonder what the vacuum's for... hmmm to the internet!

it's not a vacuum!

Vacuum ports are always between the throttle body and the engine, and in the case of forced induction they are before the compressor as well (if the compressor comes after the throttle body)

In some cars vacuum is also generated through the use of a venturi vacuum generator or a dedicated vacuum pump.

These ports are pre throttle, and therefore are just vents. Venting them to the intake pipe just makes sure they are vented to a closed off area so that no dirt or anything could clog them.

Not sure what they hook to.

I know one of them is for a crankcase vent. (hooks to the oil-filler cap area)

The vacuum ports on the R53 are on the SC inlet pipe itself.
Vacuum storage for brakes etc is located just behind the brake fluid reservoir.
