The electric windshield washer I bought was only 18 bucks. I chose the horizontal tank for imports. The kit comes with wire and a switch. I didn't like the looks of the switch so I went to the local car store and found one I did like. It took about an hour to install it. Nothing difficult, but heating and forming the reservoir did take some patience. The plastic has a crystaline structure so the melting point is narrow. If you are not careful you might melt a hole in the tank. It helped using an oven mit so that I could form it with the heat on. I can honestly say that the tank looks factory in it's location.
It might also be worth mentioning that the tank is above the mister and leaked water when it was not in use. I fabricated a tiny chack valve and put it in line to solve the syphoning problem.
I personally only use it if I am driving hard on a hot day and in Temecula Ca. there are plenty of hot days.

Awesome. I am going to try to locate one of the factory switches to use in the empty slot I have. Either that OR I think I read that supposedly the Unichip is going to have a switch for it also.

FYI-the switches are not your average wire-it-up-and-go switches. They are all connected (soldered) to a board. There are some older threads regarding that here somewhere....

Which? The stock? If so thats fine... my only problem is WHERE CAN I FIND JUST ONE? Everywhere Ive gone so far has said they can only sell the whole switch deck.

So then is this mod basically just for track use? It seems that this mod with the sprayer would have no benefit on a HOT day to help with the lag when starting out from a stop light and having the AC on? I was hoping that if this system cooled the intercooler down enough that a benefit could be had when runnning the AC and driving in the hot weather. Any info would be appreciated......Thanks

It would be fairly simple to measure the difference in intercooler efficiency with the Alta diverter compared to the stock diverter. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anyone post such information ($50 in temp gauges would be easily recouped by increased sales if the product actually works). If anyone has an Alta diverter they aren't using, send it to me. I'd be happy to test it out.

Where could I find a temp gauge that will do the job? Ill try it out if I can find a reasonably priced temp gauge that will match my other gauges.

This has always been an interesting mod to me and I have been thinking about doing it. On Alta's site it says:

"Testing has shown consistent post intercooler inlet air temperature reductions by 10 degrees with just the larger diverter. Adding the water spray dropped post intercooler inlet temperatures over 25 degrees! Expect even bigger results in high speed and hot weather conditions."

If it could cool the charge that much it should result in good power gains.

Has anybody ever tested this independent from the manufacturer?

want to get rid of......

So any of you guys that have the Alta want to get rid of the plastic planel + foam seal you removed (the one that mounts under the bonnet and seals to the intercooler). I'm looking for one with the better foam seal, not the original one used that tends to degrade and turn to dust - not sure when they made the change, but probably for the '03 model year. Let me know what you think is a fair price (plus shipping). Thanks

If the seal has disentigrated, would this not be a warrenty repair? I should think so......then you would get the "updated" seal!

good point and I'm sure you're right, but when I consider the time it takes me to drive back & forth to the dealer and wait for the instal, I'd rather pay someone here $x and do it myself.

I understand.......my dealership, Princeton MINI, is the ABSOLUTE worse EVER and I cringe everytime I need to go there ! They are horrible to deal with and redefine the use of "Horse Trader". I only return there to make their life as miserable as they make mine! I'm still waiting my satisfaction survey after 11 months of owning my car!!!! Flamers!

ah man, reading the word "Flamers" has got me laughing so hard right now, but I know exactly what your talking about as far as the dealers go. Hey, I did want to answer your question about the whether or not the sprayer would help on hot days with the AC on. I have one on and purchased it mainly for piece of mind when stuck in traffic on the hot days here in Cali., and it does help. It helps especially at lower speeds (crawling traffic). The colors are a plus too. I have been wanting to ask what intake temps. are considered to be BAD. Mine has been as high as 135F since I've had it on. That temp. btw that was achieved on a 90 degree day last week in traffic, when I spray it goes down to around 109 and once we get to 45mph +, it'll get to about 100 degrees. Def. fun checking out temps. as I drive. take care:smile:

Whats up JCampos, I'm using a temp. meter I ordered from Edmunds Scientific, $25.00. Easy install, looks a little cheasy, but works great. I just back from Davis, been messing around with the sprayer and cheking temps., I'm happy with the setup. I noticed you don't have the "Coming Soon" bit on your Sig. any more, do you have your MINI. The pulley itch is getting sooo bad lately.....pretty soon is what I keep telling myself.

AH FRESH, got your ride huh. Congrats. man. Hey the temp guage is the same as Andy's except that I'm only getting temps. after intercooler right before it goes to the intake manifold. He has one probe in each of the couplers, otherwise thats it. I sent you an email with my phone #, let me know where your going to be next week I'm down to hang out. How's it been, as fun has you hoped? take care.

Hey james, I didnt get the email you sent. Try to PM me with it instead. Its been more fun that I anticipated. I cant seem to stop driving! 980 miles now!!! I dont even want to get out of the damn thing.

I am not sure when I am going to do the installs. I am still waiting on Alta to send me my short shifter before I do any mods. They said it should go out this tuesday. If I get it before next weekend, I should be at a shop in Milpitas just off of 880 and Montague Expressway. We will probably install the short shifter, the boost and air/fuel gauges, and the magnaflow. We are going to have to do a bit of welding on the magnaflow because we have to adjust the hangers to fit my 04 model. Should be a fun day. Probbaly get around to the engine mods the week after that. Cant wait til its all finished.
